Are these to be used by hand with a hammer or nail gun?

Asked by: Jb
These nails are to be driven with a hammer. Nails that are to used in nail guns are correlated (come together in a strip).

What size nail set do I use to counter sink these?
Asked by: JimInHayward
On the head of the finish nail (top of head) you will notice an indentation that is used to countersink it. Brink the nail to Home Depot and match it to the top of the head indentation. The believe correct nail set should be a 1/32" for a 1-1/2" finish nail.

In fact, there is a ridge that runs right across the top of the head. They cannot be set because the nail punch immediately slides off the head and gouges the wood. Also, they bend more easily than any nail I have ever encountered.

They're covered with a thin film of black grease, so after you've handled 2 or 3 nails, you start getting black grease smudge on the wood you're nailing.

These nails are very greasy which gets over your hands and the piece you're nailing. You might want to consider hosing them down with brake cleaner before using them. Frequently bend while nailing trim up on siding.

Very dirty/oily, weak steel (I've bent them going into pine), poorly formed heads and points, head dimples shallow and off-center. Problem seems to be consistent across sizes, 4d, 6d, 8d, 10d... all horrible. Hopefully this is/was a temporary QC issue and the manufacturer will get it sorted out, or I got a bad/old batch, because these nails are barely usable.

I ran out of some older finishing nails so I got these - they have to be the worst (softest) nails I have had the displeasure to use. 1st three nails I tried (nailing trim on to a 2x6) bent as soon as the nail contacted the 2x6. By bent, I mean folded like they were made of soft lead instead of steel. What good is a finishing nail that won't nail into a soft 2x6? Bought 2 pounds today - returning 2 pounds tomorrow.
