Questions & Answers

Are these to be used by hand with a hammer or nail gun?

Asked by: JB
These nails are to be driven with a hammer. Nails that are to used in nail guns are correlated (come together in a strip).

Where were these nails made?

15% plus bad nails. Poorly formed and many bent BEFORE touched.
Asked by: JLT
I'm pretty certain they were made in the fiery pits of H E Double L . And I felt like I was in some weird Bardo netherworld state after the surreal experience of gently tapping in 25 nails before ONE would go in properly to a simple piece of shoe molding.

What size nail set do I use to counter sink these?
Asked by: JimInHayward
On the head of the finish nail (top of head) you will notice an indentation that is used to countersink it. Brink the nail to Home Depot and match it to the top of the head indentation. The believe correct nail set should be a 1/32" for a 1-1/2" finish nail.

If these nails are your only option; then I would recommend some type of glue. Terrible, terrible nails.

Gets on hands and wood requiring extra work for clean up. Don’t buy this product. Shame on you Home Depot for featuring poor quality products.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality 1. Inconsistent lengths 2. Greasy black coating that will make a mess of your nice white trim 3. The heads are very poorly shaped. I bought 1 lb. packs of 4d, 6d and 8d nails. Some were made in Viet Nam and others were made in Dubai, all were inconsistently sized, greasy, and had poorly shaped heads. The photos show the differences in these nails and those from an older box of American made nails of the same size and type.

He refused to shell out a couple dollars for American made ones. Only needed 25 good nails. Instead these are such utter garbage that I went through 80. And even though I'm on the younger side, I now feel like an old fogey. When I was a little kid and tasked with hammering stuff I recall nails being I don't know TOUGH as nails! This garbage from taiwan has terrible heads and bends with the lightest tap.

They're covered with a thin film of black grease, so after you've handled 2 or 3 nails, you start getting black grease smudge on the wood you're nailing.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Has issues The box claims they have countersunk heads but a majority do not; many have high points on the head which make it difficult to countersink with a center punch. Also they have some sort of black on them that gets on your fingers then onto the molding you put up, which needs to be wiped off. Not a huge deal but I found it better to wipe them off with a wet-wipe prior to using.

In fact, there is a ridge that runs right across the top of the head. They cannot be set because the nail punch immediately slides off the head and gouges the wood. Also, they bend more easily than any nail I have ever encountered.
