Though the length is a bit long, the design of the tip and threads should pull into the lumber or thin metal perfectly. and should have only a small dimple to cover up.

These screws don’t usually require predrillng as they are designed not to need it. Soft woods don’t need predrilling and if you use in hard wood I would think a 1/8” would be sufficient. 3/32” if you choose to predrill softwood. These screws also shouldn’t need a countersink in softwood but most likely do for hardwood.

As I understand it, these particular screws cannot not be used in pressure treated lumber, what screws do you recommend for pressure treated lumber
Asked by: Horse
Screws have changed and so has pressure treated lumber. Due to environmental concerns pressure treated lumber has undergone changes that renders it less corrosive than previous processed lumber which pretty much rendered exclusive use of galvanized nails or screws in order to resist acidic corrosion. This isn't so much the case anymore. However, in regards to your comment, the screws listed here are designated as "construction" screws. In no way does that imply they are meant to be used for deck screws. These are typically intended for conventional lumber and conventional framing not requiring pressure treated lumber. Whenever working with pressure treated lumber, should use screws designated for that job. Typically one would use screws designated as "Deck" screws for applications using pressure treated lumber in order to resist the corrosive nature of these types of wood. Even modern deck lumber contains corrosive chemicals that can deteriorate most conventional construction screws. Therefore it is important when constructing with pressure treated lumber to use the proper fastener. This is typically a class of screws that are specifically heat treated and coated with a corrosion resistant finish. Sold under many brands, will always be designated as "deck" or porch screws. Using the proper fastener for the job will help keep it looking good while maintaining strength and integrity.
