Are these nails good for putting up picket fence
These nails are labeled for general construction, carpentry, and framing. These nails are not ideal for outdoor use as they are not galvanized. You will want a hot dipped galvanized nail for outdoor use.

I tried to duplicate 6d 1-7/8" cement coated sinker nails that I purchased many years ago. The closest I found were Grip Rite 6d 1-7/8" smooth shank sinkers, coated. The package does not state what the coating is, but I read it is vinyl. How does the vinyl coating effect the nails holding ability. Does the nail have at least the same holding as the former cement coating?
Both cement coating and vinyl coating offer additional adhesion properties for the fastener. When driven into the wood, they both heat up offer more holding power. Over time, vinyl coating has become a much more popular coating for construction nails, where there are not as many cement coated. Sinker nails in particular. At this time, vinyl coating is the only option for sinkers. We still offer a cement coating on both box and drywall nails.
CAN THIS TYPE OF NAIL BE USED FOR EXTERIOR ON FACEBOARDS AND SOFFIT?
Not recommended. Best to use an exterior nail like hot dip galvanized or stainless
