Which Home Depot has the 12" spikes in stock?

Asked by Geoff August 2, 2020

Answer

You can find out what Home Depot stores have specific products in stock by localizing on our home page using your zip code. You can then go to the products page where it will show a Store Sku above the products image. If available in your local Home Depot store it will show "Store Pickup".

What size drill bit should be used for making pilot holes in wood for these spikes?

Asked by Workingmomma May 1, 2020
1
Answer

If you are nailing a wood member 6 inches thick or thicker to another like it, use a 3/8" dia bit to drill the pilot hole through member to be attached. You will get plenty of holding strength from the member below, and the pilot hole will prevent the spike from bending while being nailed. Be sure to use a stiff-handled 2 lb. sledge to pound with as one with a flexible shaft will bend the spikes.

One of the nails actually bent when it must have moved by a rock when pounding into hard ground. I found out because I had pulled the nail back out for some reason. So far it is the only one that did that of many I have pounded in the ground so far.
