Can these be used to build the frame for a deck?

Asked by jesse March 17, 2019

Answers

My city had a set of specifications for our deck that spelled out exactly what lumber and fasteners were required. Deck failure is the highest cause of injury on homes. I suggest you start with the codes to protect yourself legally and also you did not say what exactly you were doing with the nails. I had to use hanging brackets for my frame and specific lumber for my spans.

Can these be used to attach siding as well as do framing? I am repairing a shed that has suffered...

Your siding mfr instructions will tell you. There is no one size fits all answer. LP lap siding requires at least a .113 diam nail and 1 inch penetration into the framing member. If lap siding is used with sheathing then a 3 inch nail of this diameter is good. You may be able to use a shorter nail if there is no sheathing or with other siding.

Do these nails work with a Senco 601 nailer?

Asked by ADLEE2 May 12, 2020
5
Answers

Sorry no they will not. The senco gun you are referring to is a 34 degree nailer. The ones you are asking about are 21 degree. You may also need to know that any nailer used outside need to be galvanized. Good luck in your endeavors.

will this work for a hitachi nail gun?

Asked by mrcalifornia February 11, 2019

Answers

It will work in most of not all 21° framing nailers. Hitachi makes both a 21° and a 35° nailed . I have both a 21° Hitachi and a Porter Cable FR350 21° framing nailers and these nails work great. If you have a 21° nailer these will work, if you have a 35° nailer, these won 't work.

Will these work in a 28 degree bostitch nail gun?

Asked by Thomas July 1, 2020
5
Answers

No. The rule of thumb is nailers will usually fire nails that are within 2 to 3 degrees of the recommended nail. Also 21 degree nails are held together with plastic and 28 degree nails are held with wire.

Are these hot-dipped galvanized or zinc plated? Should they be used in pressure treated wood?

Asked by Drb52 April 2, 2016

Answers

As stated on the top of the page these nails are "Galvanized for outdoor use and with ACQ treated lumber" and in the Specifications it states these nails are "Hot Galvanized". This could mean 'hot dip galvanizing' or maybe it means 'tumbler hot galvanizing'. I am not sure if there is difference. Hot galvanizing is better than electroplating and mechanical zinc plating. Zinc is the material used for treating the nails in hot-dip galvanizing, tumbler hot-galvanizing, electroplating (electro-galvanizing), and mechanical zinc plating (peen-plating).

what is the best ring shank nail for cedar fence boards ? not too long

Asked by Fenix January 24, 2019
5
Answers

it depends on the thickness of the board, however, if the boards are between 5/8” and 1” then a 3” ringshank would be ideal. If the fence boards are being niles into annominal 4x4 post. Make sure to use heavy galvanized or hot dip galvanized. Electro-galvanized will not have enough corrosion resistance.

Cheap Metal Bends Easily
Nails are very thin and bend easily especially if wood is seaoned or hits a knot. Using a large porter cable air gun at 70-80psi and 5/10 nails actually shoot all the way in..when hitting with a hammer to finish driving, they bend & twist 99% of the time.

I've used about 500 of these over the past 2 weekends. No issues at all. I built a racoon enclosure and a chicken coop. Both were made with pressure treated wood so these galvanized nails were perfect. I've had zero misfires so far. Will buy again when I need more.
