Questions & Answers

how many screws in a 5# box??

Asked by: dean
Label on the box I purchased on 3/30/16 (1 5/8 - 8 Ga.) says 775 pcs. I weighed out 4 Oz. and counted 38 screws. Suggesting that 760 is nearer the mark. The 1,000 per box (200 per pound) may apply for a shorter screw.

#6 x 1-5/8 in. Philips Bugle-Head Coarse Thread Sharp Point Drywall Screw is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 54.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from rough hands. I'm a remodeler and have been using these 1.5/8 drywall screws for years, so that makes it easy to notice any product changes. it really didn't matter to me at first but when my wife complained of me scratching on her skin with my hands, she grabbed the magnifying glass and tweezers to discover my hands and fingers covered by black, metal, micro splinters that comes from handling these rough finished screws. they used to have a smooth finish for easy handling but now I can't touch my wife's b_ _ _ after handling these..... would like the smooth finish back if possible.

There is at least two to three pounds in each bucket that are unusable. The heads are not molded correctly and will not fit on the drill bit tip. There seems to be one or two in almost every handful.

As you can see by the picture the slot is partially filled with metal. This has the added problem of damaging your bits for it doesn't sear well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No frills Great price Even though these are drywall screws, I needed a less expensive option to attach 1x4 and 1x6 boards to a table top for pallets tables (I am making 20). I decided to try these out. Just to clarify I am attaching 1x boards to 2x4 framing. I used a #6 countersink drill bit before placing in every screws. Taking this precaution gave me sunk screws and not one screw stripped or broke on me. Pretty good considering these are drywall screws.
