Questions & Answers

What is the weight rating for a grip rite drywall screw?

What is the weight rating for a grip right drywall screw. My contractor used drywall screws to secure the electric box into the ceiling 2 x 4 to hang ceiling fan. Is it appropriate?
Asked by: Hank
It is fine if install the electric box onto the 2 X 4 not onto the drywall and then the 2 X 4. If this is the case then he should use the 2 inch instead for stronger hold power. The holding power depend more on the length of the screws directly onto wood not drywall alone.

Gave the remaining to kids to sell for scrap. Don't know who is making them. The heads are to shallow to hold the screw tip causing the tip to keep sliding/Jumping out of the Phillips head. The threads are cut so bad that the screw goes in at an angle all too often. I started using screws for rock decades ago when they were quality. These do not match up.

Makes it hard to grab a fist full and not end up with the occasional metal sliver embedded in your fingers. Also the last several boxes have had a very strong oil smell for the first several days.

I don't due much drywall if any but these screws at this size serve many purposes. Seem to be the best length for most projects. If not, I have on hand some of the other sizes.
