The rule of thumb is to drill a pilot hole is 2/3 of the diameter of the screw. This screw is a #6 screw, which is 9/64 /3 * 2= 6/64 or 3/32. or you can use this Chart: https://www.wlfuller.com/html/wood_screw_chart.html Note they suggest 7/64 for hard wood.
