Q:Will these screw into metal framing without predrilling?

        Answer This Question

A:  I used some through outside corner bead sheetrock metal without pre-drilling but those are thinner than metal studs so this may not answer your question.

        by|Oct 12, 2019

A:  They can screw into steel without pre-drilling, however it is recommended that you do pre-drill to help protect both the trim you're installing, as well as helping the ease of installation. Thank you for your question, and have a great day!

A:  Haven't tried that, but I would think it would have to be predrilled.

          by|May 5, 2023

A:  I have never worked with steel framing. I would expect that you may want a pilot hole. I always use a pilot hole when working with wood.

A:  It screwed easily into corner bead, but I haven't tried it,into metal studs

Screws would bound up on old base board putting extreme pressure on sq bit, at time causing it to roll out. Screw tip not made for self tapping into older house base boards.

I really feel like I got screwed!

Didn't really work out for me. There's no bit in the box for driving these screws, which competitors often include. They're very difficult to drive into harder wood (in my case Douglas Fir). The square drive recess is fairly shallow causing the bit to slip easily. I also broke several screws. Finally gave up and went with a trim nail gun.
