A: If your home is typical, you have 3/4" decking, and 1/2" subfloor. Not sure what type of hardwood you have, but in older homes it is 3/4". This would put you at needing a 1 5///8" screw.{ grip-rite construction screw from Home Depot }. Be sure to pilot drill for the screw, and dip the tip of the screw in glue prior to driving it in. This should work for you, with no screw tip coming through the top of your flooring.
A: Steel
A: No, this screw is not recommended to be used for installing a subfloor.
