Q:What is the shear strength of these screws in southern yellow pine ?
by|Dec 5, 2022
2 Answers
Answer This Question

A:  There are no sheer strength specs available for this screw as it is not a structural screw.

by|Dec 6, 2022

A:  Can’t give a quantitative answer on shear strength but can say that I drove over 500 of these to fasten 5/4 x 6 SYP deck boards to the 2 by structure of my deck using impact drivers.  Not a single shear failure though a few of the screws heads were not usable out of the box.

My back deck was set in 2008. The boards were loose and making so much noise. I discovered the screws were rusted so bad they no longer had a hold on any of the boards. I backed the old ones out, a horrible chore by itself. The old screws left holes, some screws I had to dig out with a screw driver and pull out. I secured the boards with the new screws and plan to replace these boards next year. Exterior deck crews should always be replaced and the boards flipped after a couple of years, in the long run it is best for stability.
