34 in. x 80 in. 808 Series Protector White Surface Mount Steel Security Door with Expanded Steel Screen is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 133.

We feel safer now opening the front to delivery people, and to strangers/solicitors to who knock on our door. We always keep the deadbolt locked (separate purchase). We also like to let cool morning air into the house, using this door. (It's not a screen door, as it still can let in tiny bugs - gnats, mosquitoes, etc.) As an installation suggestion: when you first install it, make sure to pre-drill holes with a large enough drill bit, and use you own screws until you are sure the door is square and lined up exactly the way you want it. Once you use the included one-way screws, you won't be able to reverse them.

However, it could be a much better value with a couple relatively minor enhancements. First, the installation directions were barely adequate. For professionals who install doors on a daily basis, that's not an issue. But for folks like me, who last installed a security door 10 years ago - for the first time! - they left a lot to be desired. For example: they specified that a 1/8" gap was required at the top of the door, so that's where my focus was. Only after the installation was complete did I notice there was a gap of more than an inch at the bottom! This virtually invites mice, snakes, spiders, and countless other unwanted guests into the house. And because the kit used tamper-proof screws, I'm basically stuck with it the way it is. My wife is NOT happy! Another easily accomplished enhancement is one echoed frequently throughout the many reviews posted for this door, namely the inclusion of a dozen plastic plugs to cover the gaping holes along the frame, through which the screws are inserted. Raise the price by a couple bucks, and throw in some plugs! At the very least, make them otherwise available for a nominal fee, and TELL us how to obtain them! If my wife wasn't so unhappy with the installation, I guarantee she would be unhappy about the highly visible holes spaced at intervals around the entire door frame. In conclusion: The price is very good, the door itself seems to be of good quality. But the instructions miss the mark, and the lack of plastic plugs to hide the holes borders very closely on being a 'missing parts' issue. If you know what you're doing, you can manage with the included instructions. If you aren't concerned about visible holes, or have some way to cover them (other than duct tape, that is), by all means this door is an unbeatable value. For the rest of us, it does the job it's supposed to do, but your sense of accomplishment will be severely hampered when you stand back to inspect your disappointing work. Plus, your wife may not be real happy with it... or with you! At this point I'm looking at the very real probability that I will have to pay a professional to tear out the existing structure, rebuild the framework to which the door is mounted, and reinstall this or another door. All in all, the low initial price fades into insignificance when I consider the cost of removing and reinstalling it all. So, buyer beware! This isn't rocket science, but it's not for rank amateurs, either. I, unfortunately, am a rank amateur.

I had this door installed by a handyman and it took him no time to hang it. It looks great and seems pretty secure. The holes in the screen mesh are diamond shape and are one quarter inch wide by one eighth inch high so they'll keep most bugs and insects out. At the bottom of the door there was a decent size gap between the screen door and entry door so the handyman added a wooden flange at the bottom to make them flush and keep the critters out. Other than it taking two weeks to have this door delivered to my local Home Depot..very satisfied with the good value.

I also had a 36 inch installed on another door. They seem fairly secure and I'm overall pretty happy with the purchase. I would recommend looking into the seal kits as the top and bottom are subject to gaps that could let little critters in. My handyman built a wood flange at the bottom to make it flush. I would have given this five stars except for the fact that it took two months to finally get the 32 inch door shipped to my local location.

No glass, so its not a storm door. One nice thing is that it will fit a standard door knob and dead bolt. Definitely feel more secure with the added protection it offers. Installation is simple, and it can be flipped to be either a left or right hand swing. If you are looking for affordable security, this is for you. Sadly, my Home Depot does not carry it in the store and so I had to special order it on the site.

It took longer to remove that, than it was to install the door. I did not install it, but had an experienced contractor installed it in one hour. It all went smoothly - I love this security door. With the added black locking knob and dead bolt kit - this makes a secure addition to my outside door. The door seems to be quality made. Strong and well made - well worth the money.

I had to reset the jambs three times, good thing I used non-security screws. The expanded steel screen rattles when it closes. I am most likely going to put something between the screen and the bars. I would recommend that the manufacturer install noise dampening blocks between the bars and screen.

The mesh screen is excellent and it allows you to have a great flow of air coming through. My door is right off the kitchen area so when I am cooking or grilling the smoke or fumes can exit right through the screen. I love to have my door open and locked when I am home, and get a breeze of outside air coming through. The only negative about the door is the holes all way around the outside frame once it is installed. Please see photo. Manufacturer should adjust or recall the door to adequately cover the holes.
