How thick is the wood?

Asked by GardeningNewb March 11, 2021

Answer

The side rails are 7/8" thick.

Could casters with wheels be put on the bottom of the legs or is the weight too great? Thank you.

Asked by gardeningwithraisedbed July 22, 2020
1
Answer

Once it if filled with dirt, I believe it would be too heavy. Maybe, just a thought, a platform could be built which heavy duty casters could be added to. Secure the bottom of the leggs to the platform. I think this would give the planter more support as the four leggs would move in unison.

Are there holes in the bottom?

Asked by OK June 2, 2020

Answers

There are loose 2x6 boards that lay on wooden rails on the bottom. Excess water will drain from the space between the boards. You should use the included fabric liner to keep soil in the planter. Purchased September 2017

Answer

You can grow vegetables in both units. "Safe Finish" means it is finished in the Gronomics Garden Bed Oil, which is safe to grow vegetables in. Unfinished beds are non-treated and completely food safe as well!

how much soil do you need for this? Thank you

Asked by MB May 7, 2020

Answer

You will need 8.9 cubic feet of soil for this garden bed.

Does anyone leave the bed unfinished, and how long before you notice any rot on the unfinished bed?

Asked by steveco7 April 26, 2020
1
Answer

I have had my raised bed going on three years. I left it unfinished, but did treat the entire unit with a wood conditioner, something that would be used on wood cutting boards. As of now, I have not had a problem with rot.

Does this have a bottom?

Asked by gardener April 13, 2020

Answers

No. If you have concerns about water retention, rodent prevention, etc. you'll need to add something yourself as appropriate for your circumstances. That said, mine have lasted well and assembly was quick & easy. Very satisfied.

How thick are the boards?

Asked by Sid April 9, 2020

Answer

The boards are 1 inch thick.

Is this made in China or USA?

Asked by SofiaIsabella April 6, 2020
1
Answer

This was made in the United States. I have had it for going on three years on my deck. It was easy to put together, and I love having fresh herbs and vegetables right outside my kitchen door. Liked it so much I bought a second one.

How many cubic feet of soil do they hold?

Asked by Jogene January 23, 2019

Answer

The garden bed can hold up to 9.5 c.f. of soil.

It is a pretty good product, knowing the price of cedar. It assembled with No tools required. I customized it to better fit our needs. Replaced the corner caps be a cap rail which serves the same purpose but gives the unit a more substantial look. I coated the bottom four inches of the legs and the new cap rail with a water-proof paint. I lined the inside with a heavy visquene to prevent staining the fresh look of the wood if damp seeps through the seams. It is expected to provide wife a very good looking herb garden for many years!

Very easy starter kit
This is a great way to get started with raised bed gardening. Very easy, no tools required assembly. Had a damaged piece in the box, but called the customer service number included with the instructions and they sent it out right away. Combined with other units to make a full garden. Height is just right, so no back strain.

Absolutely Perfect Product
Assembled quickly with no tools, gorgeous cedar, which I sealed for added durability. One leg was cracked, called Grownomics and they sent a replacement within 3 days. Price from Home Depot was much cheaper than buying directly from Grownomics, which was cool. LOVE the height, the look, and it's quite deep. Bought 2, both located off living room patio so I will see them daily and not forget to water. Awesome purchase, visitors agree!

Great beds, but you may want more than 1
Love these beds. I am growing for one person, and bought 3, and really feel like I need at least one more or should have bought a couple larger ones. I painted each a different color and they are nestled in my backyard among the plants. If you plant a lot of lettuce, or things you will be eating the leaves from, know that these are very small and you'll need to plant things very close together. Where you are supposed to plant each plant in a 6-pack 18" apart, you won't have much room in these boxes, so don't buy 6-packs! Example: 1 box has only 4 plants in it, because some will be vines that will really need room to expand. In any case, I really love the height and it was easy to paint this unfinished wood and cover with a clear sealer for outside.

Wonderful for the price
Very easy to assemble (no tools required). Bought two for the front of our small home to brighten up until we can landscape new home. Very good price esp considering it's real wood.

Love Them
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them. I have physical limitations and these are the perfect height to plant a few veggies. They were unbelievablely easy to put together. Like building with Lincoln Logs. Very good quality and plenty sturdy when I filled with dirt. Only drawback was they were a little pricey.
