Q:Are the wire bristles strong enough to keep chipmunks away from my porch, but still allow airflow between the dirt & siding? The space is too small to dig & install a wire mesh "rat wall" six inches under the soil line. I'm guessing the steel wool "fabric" will not stay secure compared to the brush with hairpin-type stays, THX!

Answer This Question

A:  Many people use GutterBrush to keep birds, rodents, insects, etc. out of their gutters, eaves, and other areas around their home. I'm not sure about your application between the dirt and siding, but the bristles are pretty stiff and are usually effective at discouraging birds and rodents from nesting or accessing areas where the brush is in place.

A:  I would say yes. With the brush in there, there is no room for much of anything except very small things.

Q:how well do these install over roof/gutter heat cables?
        by|Oct 19, 2018

        Answer This Question

A:  GutterBrush Leaf Guard can be used easily with roof / gutter heat cables. The flexible bristles spread around cables and cause no issue. The temperature of heating cables only get warm enough to prevent ice build up and cause no problem with the roof, gutters or GutterBrush. Many customers have also reported a reduction in general ice problems since installing GutterBrush. The black bristles prevent ice and snow from sliding down and building up at the downspout and the black bristles warm up slightly when exposed to sunlight and reduce icicles and ice dams.

        by|Oct 20, 2018

A:  I don't have gutter heaters. The brushes are moderately stiff. If the cables are sitting flat on the bottom of the gutter, the brushes should slide over them. They are just big bottle brushes.

Q:How does it handle heavy snow? Does it cause ice damage?

            Answer This Question

A:  GutterBrush works very well in heavy snow / ice conditions. The bristles reduce the build up of snow and ice and keep the gutter flow channel open. GutterBrush bristles are black and when exposed to sunlight the bristles warm slightly and and promote quicker melting of any ice. We have received many reports from customers who tell us that they have reduced previous icicle / ice dam issues after installation of GutterBrush. Product has only been installed for two weeks. Waiting to see if this product will work.
Bought this item( 4 three foot sections) and cut them into 18" sections. These 18" sections were then placed in the gutters directly over all the downspout holes in my gutters in an attempt to keep the gutter downspout holes from getting covered with leaves and other debris. Still waiting to see if this attempt works and will allow water to at least get out of the gutter and go down the downspout. Didn't want to invest a lot of money to install the gutter brush in my entire gutter system. Item seems to be well made.

              Perfect for pine straw
I removed my traditional gutter guards and use these on two inside corner sections of my roof —where the increased water flow was rushing over the gutter guards and onto my porch and causing damage downstream. The successfully allow the water to enter the gutters while keeping pine straw and other debris out.

                Great Alternative Gutter Protection
A much better and simpler approach keeping debris out of gutters than expensive gutter cover type products.

                Money Saving Product
In Atlanta we have many pine, hardwood and particularly magnolia trees. Keeping gutters clean is a twice a year costly effort. As we have a slate roof, having someone tromping around on the slate is not a good idea. We experimented with a few gutter brushes a year ago and found them to be very helpful in reducing our gutter cleaning costs. Rather than having leaves (particularly magnolias) clog the gutters resulting in water overflow which lead to wood rot, the brushes capture the leaves on top of the brush but still allowing the water to percolate to the bottom of the gutter and flow to the downspout. For many of the leaves captured on top of the brush, they dry, die and wither and blow away. Pine needles are still and issue and we still, on occasion, have to have a gutters cleaned and the brushes cleaned but not near as often as we had to clean gutters before installing the brushes.
