How much strength is required to use this tool? I am an older woman and have some strength limitations. I am trying to cut barbed wire.
Asked by: KAREN
I am a fit 67 year old and to cut batter cables I still need to place one handle on the ground and press the other with good force using both hands. I should cut barbed wire fairly easily, but a better choice for you would be "bolt cutters." 14" to 18" handles should be more than sufficient for that and should cut the with with little effort.

Can this cut small steel wire without ruining the cutters?

Asked by: Jason
It depends on the wire. For mild steel wire like top wire used for chain link fence it should do fine. The jaws (and maybe the entire tool) is made in Japan, and the jaws appear to be made of very high quality steel.

How many CAT6 cables can it cut at one time?
Asked by: phoneman
Unless there is some specific need to do that I would avoid it. It would cut a mass about 1" in diameter (however many that would be), but they will not cut straight and will likely needbe cut again before attaching the terminals.

I recently upgraded my motorhome's inverter, going from a failed 2000 watt unit from 2004 to a new 3000 watt unit. One of the requirements of the upgrade was to replace the existing 1/0 and 2/0 cables with 4/0 cables. I had looked at other cable cutters and read reviews and decided that to deal with cables that large I needed something serious and bought these from Home Depot. I ended up having to cut nine cables from two 25 foot lengths of 4/0, and from the first cut I was glad I chose the H.K. Porter cable cutter. Even with their long handles, I still had to place one handle on the ground or against my thigh and push with both hands on the other handle. Not sure, nor do I care, if that reflects on my strength or the formidable size of pure copper 4/0 cables. I never gave a single thought about the possibility of these cutters being damaged. No flex or other hint of being pushed anywhere close to their limit. I could not have done the job as easily nor efficiently without the H. K. Porter cable cutters.

Cut 5/16 inch winch cable smoothly without threads or chards. Made 4 cuts and seems cutting edges remain sharp. No mechanical advantage, so needs a strong operator. Met expectations.

This product does exactly what its supposed to do and it does it very well! I purchased this for cutting heavy duty steel cable for weight equipment, and where all other cable cutters failed, this one worked perfectly! Perfect cuts, easy to use, and i can tell it will last me many, many cuts. Probably wont ever have to buy another set of cable cutters again.

I have not used mine yet, but I saw the same pair at a store where I was getting wire rope. I snipped a piece of the wire with those, and they were excellent. The store did not sell the cutter, so I fond them online. Great cutters.
