Hardwood Reflections countertops are made of solid wood staves that are finger jointed and edge glued for a classic butcher block look. A variety of species are available so you can pick a color and style that works for your space. The countertops are sold unfinished, so you can customize your piece with any common DIY woodworking options, including cutting in sinks, creating joints for corners, routing edges, distressing, or making custom shaped pieces for a unique install. Multiple finish options are also available, including stain from Hardwood reflections, varnishes, poly topcoats, or food safe mineral oils and conditioners. Alder is a relatively uniform light tan color and can be slightly reddish, with a fine straight grain pattern. Alder is a soft wood and very easy to machine, cut, and shape, making it ideal for applications where a lot of customization is needed, or a distressed look is desirable.

AnswersIf you have clamps long enough to hold them and wood glue, it is easily possible. Suggest getting a dowel or biscuit connector tool to be sure the surfaces line up perfectly! Worth the cost, inexpensive tools are available.

AnswersPersonally, I would not put a finished countertop in a location where it would see frequent rain and or sun. If you do, you'll need to protect it well with appropriate products.

I bought this to use as a desktop to my standing desk setup and boy am I glad that I made the decision to grab this over any of ikeas offerings. I stained the block with 3 coats of minwax golden oak and then 2 layers of their satin poly coat and wow what amazing results. Works perfectly when paired with a nice set of standing desk legs(I used the manual set from prime cables). Thanks for a great PRODUCT Hardwood Reflections

I have had a butcher block counter before and in comparison this one is very rough, not the smooth finish I expected, making it hard to wipe off. Once it was oiled the variation in the wood was very evident, unlike the photo. If you’re looking for a more refined look this isn’t the best choice.

Chris-We finish these tops at the 180-grain sander. You may want to finish sown a little smoother.

This is a pretty nice piece of wood - however there were several dings/marks and splitting wood on the "A" side. We ended up using the knotty side, which was OK. There were dings on that side as well, but were not as significant as the other side. The knots were reasonable and don't interfere with the use of the counter, and in fact add interest. The dings however, were very disappointing. We made do, as I did not want to send it back.

A little disappointed with this one. It’s the third one I’ve gotten and the first two were great. This one had two B sides. There was filler used on the A side that showed up harshly after staining. The sides had grooves and the A side had a crack. So bad I’m using the B side up with all it’s knots as the top.

The slab was just what we were looking for. We installed it in our laundry room over the washer and dryer for folding and made wood slab waterfall edges on each side. We put a coat of white stain and then a matte finish clear coat on top and it’s gorgeous!
