Will any local HomeDepot assist in cutting butcher block to desired dimensions?

Answer

Great question. Some stores will do this and some will not. Contact your local Home Depot. If they decide to cut your butcher block down leave a 1/8" of extra. The saws are more rough than fine. Sand the rest of the block to get the desired measurement.

Is wood countertop solid strips that can be cut for undermount sinks

It can be cut, but since it is unfinished it will need to be sealed to prevent it from absorbing water that is splashed from the sink. Since you will be preparing food you need to use a food safe sealer on it.

I purchased 3 of these countertops (one 8ft and two 4ft) - two of these (the 8ft and one of the 4ft) have spots in the tops from wood filler used in them. Beware! Like me, you’ll find out after cutting and finishing, at which point they are no longer returnable. Inconsistent quality - large gouges and cracks in the wood.

It is very heavy and hard to manage for one person but well worth it. I finished it with amber urethane and it is beautiful as my new countertop. I used what was probably meant to be the bottom but I love the character of the knots in the wood.

Disappointed
Purchased this a couple weeks ago for a studio desk project. Applied finish to “B” side, it was more like a C-, but it’s the underside of a desk, no big deal. I wish I would have noticed the visible finger joint before I put the finish on the back, I probably would have returned it then, but, oh well. Sanded and started to apply finish to top side, and noticed a few filler areas, still not that huge of a deal, and decided the finger joint would be covered by equipment on the desk. Finish turned out awesome (5 coats Arm R Seal) and I proceeded to let it cure. As I was in shop this morning to size the steel legs, I started to think I saw a curve in the top.... no way, I told myself, and grabbed a straight edge.... sure enough, there is a 1/2” bow on the top, and of course, it’s concave, and the steel legs are a “box” with solid top bar. So it wont sit on the legs correctly. So, I’m out the cost of the top, and probably 10 hours of time on finishing. So, yes I’m disappointed.

We're about 1 1/2- 2 months in and I love the butcher block countertops. I've sealed them twice now. No stains, we keep water wiped up and use a Mr. Clean eraser to get off anything that doesn't come off with soap and water. They are holding up well thus far.

This was a great piece to serve as a counter for our laundry. The piece was well packaged and came with no defects or dings. Great buy versus what I could have done from scratch.

Bad Piece
I have purchased three countertops for my kitchen and I am only having issues with one. There are terrible knots and cracks throughout the entire board and are getting worse with the days. We made to sure have then properly acclimated, oiled, and yet just one is failing me miserably. Super disappointed that the quality isn’t consistent.
