Stemming from the Maple family, Hevea is a hard, durable and dynamic species of hardwood. Being quite resistance to warping and cracking, it's always a smart choice for remodels. Hevea is known for its density and brings the warmth of wood in all its splendor to your remodel. It is also a renewable plantation hardwood species, known for being planet friendly. Countertops are made of solid wood staves which are finger jointed and edge glued for a classic butcher block look. A variety of species are available so you can pick a color and style that works for your space. The countertops are sold unfinished, giving you freedom to customize your piece. Remember that wood is a product of nature. The allure of a pure wood product is that no two grain patterns, textures or colors are identical. Wood is affected by soil contents, climate, growth patterns and many other factors. These wonderfully unique features will ensure a one of a kind look for your remodel. Differences in grain, coloring or mineral streaking, as it occurred in nature, will not be considered a defect or reason for a replacement. Wood will also change with time, gradually responding to its environment, and aging with beauty.

- Each block has an A (upper) and B (bottom) side. A side will be more pristine while B side will be more rustic and imperfect.

Nothing but cracks, holes and gashes.
I would not recommend this product. Though it seems to be a solid heavy piece of birch. The "backside" has tons of issues as you can see in photos. I used putty to fill all the gaps and cracks before I used a stain and sealent, But I am still worried that this is going to fall apart at some point. I wish I did not waste $200 on this. But it was too heavy to return to ups.. So I am stuck with it unfortunately.

Nice perfect countertop for washer/drier
The product I received was well made and well finished with clear coat. It came in well protected packaging. The extra cost of the finish was well worth it. (Thanks to my wife's suggestion!) This countertop was a perfect fit for our laundry room. *Don't throw away the packaging material yet!!* I used the high density form packaging material just taped on top of the washer/drier as shown in the pic. Both my wife and I are very happy with this purchase.

Cracked after two months use as a desk
The pre-finished desktop cracked after two months use as a desk. I was hoping for something longer lasting than a particle board desk.
The UV finish did work nice for a desktop and I've two other butcher blocks from this mfgr that have held up nicely.

Put this over my washer/dryer and lucky enough that it fix the space exactly. It's gorgeous, thick, heavy and gave new life to my old beat-up washer/dryer. Note that you MUST finish the piece with a day or so of taking off the plastic. I wasn't prepared for that, so had to run out quickly to get stain and do it on a work night instead of waiting until Saturday when I had more time.

Looked great until it failed
Upon receipt, there was a slight lip between sections, but it sanded out as part of the finishing process and looked great. Less than a month later I have a full separation running half the length of my 5-foot desktop. Giant loss of time and productivity.
