will this work in winter to power a corded electric snowblower?

Asked by: zbird
No, unless it is a very small snow blower. For a 100 foot run on an electric snowblower, you will most likely have to have heavy 12 gauge wire extension cord. You won't get enough current at 120 volts through 100 feet of 16 gauge wire for the motor to run at full rpm. That will cause the motor to run slow, overheat, and greatly shorten its life. What can really happen is when you hit some heavy snow that the motor cannot power through due to lack of amps flowing in the narrow wire and that will cause a large voltage drop in the wire so the motor will then be trying to power through heavy snow with low voltage and the motor will stall and burn out suddenly and permanently rather then blow snow. What a 100 foot 16 gauge cord can do is power a small electric weed trimmer or small blower. It might work to power a 1000 watt halogen light. Check the rating on the extension cord. I think at that length it may power up to 600 watts or 5 amps for motors and maybe 8 amps or 1000 watts for lights.
