If i had to guess...Roughly 3 ft long 2 feet deep and just over a foot wide . They fill up fast!
Yes I would believe they could be recycled. They are made of sturdy plastic. Works excellent on trailers with easy tie down access. However the lid design allows some rain water inside the container so they are not water tight, I use a large trash bag to put my items in to keep them dry.
I would stack the totes as you want—if you have good support as you mentioned and nothing real fragile go for it! Sometimes common sense is the best is the best way to go so use Your judgment and good luck.
Probably a 30 gal container. Not real sure.
They are not airtight. But they are pretty much vermin resistant. To be very particular, you can tape them shut or bag them (long-term? with dessicant?). I've not tried this; but you may want to explore fitting one with a small weather-strip or resilient gasket-like material to approach an hermetic seal.
