Can I use this as a heat lamp for outside feral cats?

Asked by: Amber
Sorry No this is not an out side light and the gage wire may not handle the bulb watt your putting in it to get good heat from it. the rear socket of the lamp light may be expose to the rain out side and its not weatherproof.

Can someone explain to me the why I can't or shouldn't use a 200 or 250 watt bulb. Someone please give me the technical reason on why it is not possible or why it could be dangerous or prone to fail with a larger wattage bulb.
Asked by: BobbyH
Thank you everyone for your replies. I had a hunch it had to do with the wire from the plug, but didn't think about the plastic used to hold the bulb. I actually bought this item a few months ago and it truly throws plenty of light with a 150 bulb and am happy with it--I used it in an attic when laying insulation and couldn't be happier, now use it to light a sunroom when in use. The bulb recently failed* and I became curious as to the technical reason why the limitation. *The filament came disconnected on one end of the 150 watt bulb after being jostled, but is now somehow connected or at least touching and emitting light, I will continue to hold my breath when near it.

150-Watt Incandescent Clamp Light is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 41.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from well it is a light They come assembled so all you have to do is add the light bulb. that is not the issue, the big issue is the metal reflector over the process of heating up causes the threads to stretch enough that the reflector will become loose and fall off the plastic socket sleeve. When it does it will of course fall on the bulb it self and not fall off, but that is only because it lands on the bulb. I really do not want the reflector to fall on the lamp my self or sit on it. My lamps I got from home depot over the past 5 years as I needed them, I have gone so far as to track down and contact the lamp manufacturer. They sent me new ones that worked fine for a while before this once again became a issue. as many lights as I have to deal with, it is a annoyance. The only 1 solution I found is, high temp tape good for 200 + deg. F. this way you can wrap the threads so the reflector will stay on and the tape will not melt, or burn.
