Questions & Answers

Can you purchase additional "feet" to fit into the bottom poles if you were to build them only half as tall and build two sets half as tall side by si

Asked by: Dory
You CAN add these together side by side, by THREE or by FIVE or BY Seven or by Nine. Standing in line at the HOME DEPOT, a lady told me she did it all along her children's playroom two & three high. EVERYTHING had its place that the children could reach. I have done it in a 5 x 15 storage unit that went from 8 feet high to 15 feet high ALL THE WAY up. You pop out the black end pieces, try not to break them. But if you do, that's okay, you only need the parts that the poles actually go into later. Then you place the piece that has no ends on top of the two straddled shelves, then pop in the poles, then pop continue as usual. TO MAKE large holes in shelves, like one that will be double empty shelf, use your black pieces to create a LONG pole to skip, then place the next shelf on top of that. I made room for my nightstand to be stored up about five shelves high. Made room for trash cans being stored to sit on the ground and the three shelves each side, then the shelf about the trash cans. It is almost like legos. I will add an image in a few weeks. getting ready to do in shed built on my property.

Would you consider using this shelf in a dorm room? I would put containers and baskets etc to hold stuff but can't find any reviews on such????

Asked by: crossed
It would be perfect for a dorm room or anywhere you like. It is attractive and light weight. It is white trimmed in gray. Inside or in a garage or shop.....perfect. So..... YES.

Can these shelf systems be hooked together to extend the length of the shelves (i. e. side-by-side)?

Asked by: hbcrandy
There's no built-in design feature that lets them hook together but many ideas have already been given. You could also drill a hole through shelf sides and use a long carriage bolt and nut.

It after taking all of the pieces out I noticed almost every piece had extra plastic attached to it. It appears it was completely overlooked by quality control. It went straight from the molds to the terrible packaging. What should have been 5 minutes putting this together took almost 90 minutes because I had to trim every piece with a box cutter so it would properly fit together. Also, multiple portions of the shelves were broken. The quality of this unit was very subpar to the great HDX products I am accustomed to purchasing. I would not recommend this. For $40, I would at very least expect proper fitment and quality.

I have bought many of these in the past but the last 2 I bought had plastic overflow and protrusions that I had to spend 1 hour to shave and cut off before I could assemble it. I reported it to home depot and the manufacturing company who made them and sent email and pictures. I didn't hear back from them. Home depot said they would give me $15 gift card for my troubles. I never got one. Very sad for both companies. Not a bad product but leave yourself 1 hour to cut off the manufacturing defects.

We were able to salvage one set out of the remaining unbroken pieces. The shelves were not on sale so by the time we made the 100 mile round trip to the nearest Home Depot, this purchase was expensive.

I had to spend 1 hour cleaning all the untrimmed plastic from the pieces Even then they didn't fit like one would expect for a $40.00 item. This shelf would be acceptable at a $20 dollar price tag. Not worth the effort.

Easy to put together, holds a good deal of weight. We were missing one piece, but did not need it, actually, because one of the shelves (we bought a short row of them) needed to be "one shelf shorter" than the others to accomodate a window. Don't know yet how well they'll hold up in Arizona's extreme summer heat, but they're looking very fine at the present time, and they sure do make an attractive addition to our lives. Good product, fair price, easy to put together, clean, neat, and once again, absolutely perfect for the job we wanted them to do.

I am having to trim excess plastic off of every connecting piece in both sets I purchased. I have bought the same product several months ago and had the same problem to a lesser degree. Buy in person and inspect the package before buying to avoid the worst sets. Do not buy online, in store only. Even then you cannot see all legs, but can avoid cracked shelves. That being said, after filing and trimming the connecting points of excess plastic the shelves work well. The trimming is required as the shelf legs and rods require a perfectly tight fit. The supplier needs quality control assistance. Nice design, poor control at the factory.
