Questions & Answers

Can you purchase additional "feet" to fit into the bottom poles if you were to build them only half as tall and build two sets half as tall side by si

Asked by: Dory
You CAN add these together side by side, by THREE or by FIVE or BY Seven or by Nine. Standing in line at the HOME DEPOT, a lady told me she did it all along her children's playroom two & three high. EVERYTHING had its place that the children could reach. I have done it in a 5 x 15 storage unit that went from 8 feet high to 15 feet high ALL THE WAY up. You pop out the black end pieces, try not to break them. But if you do, that's okay, you only need the parts that the poles actually go into later. Then you place the piece that has no ends on top of the two straddled shelves, then pop in the poles, then pop continue as usual. TO MAKE large holes in shelves, like one that will be double empty shelf, use your black pieces to create a LONG pole to skip, then place the next shelf on top of that. I made room for my nightstand to be stored up about five shelves high. Made room for trash cans being stored to sit on the ground and the three shelves each side, then the shelf about the trash cans. It is almost like legos. I will add an image in a few weeks. getting ready to do in shed built on my property.

Would you consider using this shelf in a dorm room? I would put containers and baskets etc to hold stuff but can't find any reviews on such????

Asked by: crossed
It would be perfect for a dorm room or anywhere you like. It is attractive and light weight. It is white trimmed in gray. Inside or in a garage or shop.....perfect. So..... YES.

Can these shelf systems be hooked together to extend the length of the shelves (i. e. side-by-side)?

Asked by: hbcrandy
There's no built-in design feature that lets them hook together but many ideas have already been given. You could also drill a hole through shelf sides and use a long carriage bolt and nut.

36 in. W x 72 in. H x 18 in. D 5-Shelf Plastic Ventilated Storage Unit is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 3219.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice for my new shed. Would have a 5 star but before I could get the entire thing together I had to tear it down and clean up ends of poles and holes in shelves where mold residue was left. The pieces are made to fit tightly together so any little "hanging chad," as it were. will keep you from getting it to fit together at all. Some pieces were smooth and clean edges and some were horrible. I used scissors, a nail file and a razor knife. One pole on the very top was a booger and I was about to take it down and get a refund. It is a good unit and will hold must anything you want to put on it. It is very attractive and will go into any room in the house, not just a shop or garage. Once I finally got it done.....I was better about it but not at the time of struggle. A 15 minute job ended up taking almost an hour. I do recommend this unit........just look at both ends of each pole and top and bottom holes in all shelves to save a lot of words no one should say. Let my experience help you have a happier time putting this together.

Assembly is quick and easy once you have cleaned up the parts. Be prepared to spend about 90 minutes trimming parts before you fit things together. The plastic shelves and legs have numerous "tags & snags" of plastic material that must be cut off with a utility knife (an Exacto knife won't do). Because the legs fit snug inside corner holes in the shelf, all the little random bits of stray plastic must be gone prior to assembly. Trimming inside the corner holes can be tricky. Just be sure your knife is sharp. The finished storage unit holds a lot. Photo shows some typical snags on plastic legs.

I was initially concerned that the extra plastic around the the joints would slow be down but 1) it looked like the company tried to punch through to make sure there was as little extra plastic as possible 2) whatever extra plastic was there it was easy to still join the legs through the holes without much extra cutting. I'm not super handy or strong. I liked that these could fit in my tiny yaris hatchback just fine, I could lift each one by myself, and I put together by myself in like an hour (for 4 shelving units). Tip: use a rubber mallet put legs into shelves before joining altogether

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bring Your Utility Knife I think this is a bit pricey for the amount of storage it provides, but I'll say it's worth it. One complaint I do have is that the holes in the shelves themselves have a lot of plastic left in them from the molding process. You need a sharp utility knife or box-cutter to clean that out. Also, several of the vertical pieces had little plastic buttons on them, I think also left over from the molding process. I had to cut those off to get them all to fit easily into the shelf holes. The total amount of work required to get rid of the excess plastic was minimal, but you really do need to do it, so bring a good, sharp knife to wherever you are setting these things up. They do hold up a fair amount of stuff and I like that there are feet that elevate the bottom-most shelf off the floor. A little extra ventilation and distance above any water that might leak into the basement is a good thing to have. The three-star rating would be four if they were ten dollars cheaper, so, as shelves, they are pretty good. Guess you have to pay for what you get in this world.

I've bought so many of these, that I've lost count. They are easy to build, very easy to move, easy to re-configure when you need a different height. The metal ones are a pain in that regard. Super strong-I don't even worry about what I put on these. We use them in the basement, in our storage areas outside, in pantries and office. I wish that these came in a more shallow depth, but similar strength to use in kids' rooms for toys and stuff. They are a bit too big for that. I have been setting up these currently, back to back in a storage barn for out of season clothes, canning equipment, holiday stuff, and outgrown toys to save for grandchildren. We bought twelve of these, lining them up six long, and by putting them in two rows, (back to back), we can fit five of the small moving boxes that cost 82 cents each on each shelf of the doubled unit. We put three (small moving boxes) deep, long way, and two deep the shorter dimension-I realize this is unclear, but no way to explain otherwise. This gives us a serious amount of organized storage that looks neat, and is labeled and accessible but not laying around in heaps, like before.

Just wanted to let someone know how pleased I am with this product.Have bought several of these units in the past for use in my patio garden. Can reconfigure and dimensions are perfect for 2 flower box sized planters (lettuce). They provide some shade when needed and openings for drainage as well.I can put a cover on top when sun is too strong or rain too heavy.I also use two shelves for a small potting table and single shelves under heavy pots and containers for my vegetables. They are strong, light weight, easy to assemble, durable, reasonably priced and the manufacturer has additional feet caps and supports.I also use them for seed starting indoors. They clean up beautifully and are easy to store when the season is over.Did I say that I like this product?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The perfect solution I purchased 6 of these at my previous home. We had very limited storage space in a 10’ x 20’ shed. Over the years I have amassed a rather substantial collection of Dept. 56 Snow Village pieces as well as some dolls. I purchased 6 of these shelves and they were the ideal solution for my limited storage space. I am a 60 year old woman who suffers from Rheumatoid as well as Osteo Arthritis and I was able to easily construct these shelves by myself. We are in the process of moving and I absolutely insisted that these shelves go where we go. I have since, purchased one of these units for my mother’s home, and when we are finally in our new location; I fully intend to purchase at least 3 more of these. Bottom line — I love these shelves.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Did Not Fit Together The extruded white plastic did not fit with the hard plastic holes. Almost every hole had to be carved out with a box cutter, and the worst misfit was off over 1/8 of an inch. Thus, what is advertised as "Quick and Easy to assemble. No tools are needed." was not the product I received. I ordered 7 units, and all were like this. Therefore, I could only put together two units at a time, because it was hard and dangerous work carving out holes with a box cutter. It took me three days. Also, where the plastic came out in the middle of the shelves, I have two sharp piles of dried plastic that could easily cut what I put on the shelves. On the positive side, all parts where included in the packages, and I finally got them together. I would rather have paid more and had some quality control where the plastic parts are manufactured. It says "Made in the USA." I think the manufacturers had a good idea for a quality and useful product, but they need to monitor the adjustments to their machines and quality control.
