While I understand that these bags are designed for paint, could they alternatively be used for cooking; in other words are they food safe?
Asked by: axm54
Item description says " straining all types of liquids". People seem to use them for food without ill effects. I believe I would at least dampen and microwave them to kill any lurking germs as you do with sponges to keep them fresh and safe.

What are the bag dimensions, when laid flat?

It's labeled at 5 gallons, but says it's 6 inches wide. That can't be right. I would expect something like 12-18 x 18-24 inches, to line a 5-gallon bucket.
Asked by: Tim
Just a quick reminder the bags are meant to strain paint, so they would not fill the entire 5 gallon bucket. There needs to be room for the fresh paint to pool.

Can these bags withstand high temperatures in water? 200 F degrees or so?

Asked by: Elliot
I HAVE BOILED BROOD COMB IN THESE BAGS TO SEPARATE THE WASTE FROM THE WAX. BOILING IS 220 DEGREES. I HAVE ALSO USED THEM MANY TIMES IN MY SOLAR MELTER TO SEPARATE FOREIGN MATERIAL FROM MY WAX.

The HDX Elastic Top Strainer is a great product to remove impurities from paint before rolling or spraying. The elastic top helps prevent collapse of the strainer into the paint container, as has happened to me when using a cone shaped filter made of paper with no elastic. I recently used this product to strain paint that I had scraped up from the driveway after a spill. It worked great and I was able to save paint that would otherwise have been a total loss. This is a good product.

I received this two pack of five-gallon paint strainers to strain off older paint I was using to paint the interior walls of our garage. Since it was older paint that had been sitting around a while, there were some lumps and debris. The price was very good, it worked as advertised, was well worth it as it saved me the cost of a couple gallons of paint by using the paint I already had around.

This year I added some new railing and grabbed last years leftover paint. Needless to say it was less than prime ready to use. These 5 GAL. ELASTIC TOP STRAINERS by Workforce saved me from having to match paint (why does that never work?). After very easy straining my old paint ran trouble free through my sprayer. Light weight and easy to use, well worth the $$. Good idea to strain fresh paint also, you never know what might be in there!

Elastic Top Strainers (2-Pack) were made to use with paint and stain, but I thought I’d give them a try at screening the hydroponic nutrient solution concentrate before I added it to the dilute solution that I use for my tomatoes and cucumbers. Sometimes I get a precipitate and sometimes the nutrients don’t completely dissolve leaving particles that can plug small orifices. For this operation I put the Strainer on a food safe 5 gallon bucket that I got at Home Depot. The 5-gal. Elastic Top Strainers really fit well and worked much better than expected at straining out the solids. I was able to rinse out the strainer and will be able to use it again. I’m very satisfied with how the Strainer worked and will be mixing nutrients this way from now on.

If you are a DIY person you may not use a strainer, if not you might reconsider you will like the way your product applies. The five gallon elastic top strainer mentioned is easy to use. Just fold out and inserting a clean 5 gallon paint bucket and let the elastic top to be captured under the top outer ring. For myself I run a piece of masking tape over the elastic to eliminate the klutz factor. The quality material strains out the impurities in both old and new paint. This product is good for paints and stains. If you are a spray guy/gal it will help prevent spray equipment clogging. Anyway if you brush it, roll it, or spray it also strain your paint or stain product first.

It you work with 5 gallon buckets of paint or even multiple single gallons you know how hard straining larger quantities of paint can be. These 5 gallon bucket strainers are great and have caused me to be more diligent about straining all of my paint. They grip the sides of the bucket very well and do a good job of getting lumps and stringers out of your paint before application.

You can mix it all you want, but there will always be small flakes that fall from the top of the bucket or the lid and get mixed in. Then they'll junk up the tip of your sprayer and you'll waste time and paint trying to flush it out every time. I did a paint job where I chose to do so and I learned not to do it again the first time. It's also good for new paint; just to ensure that nothing significant gets into your paint. If you're doing a high-end job, let's say, or using expensive tools where you don't want to risk anything. Yes, the fabric is very thin, yet paint is very thick while the threads holding the two pieces together seem loose. If you pull it out slow then it'll work. If you expect just to yank it out of there, you might rip it. If you're very quick about it, you might be able to rinse these out right after using them and therefore not have to waste as many. I was excited when I found out there were two to a pack. This made it a great value. The strainer fits very securely on the outside of any 5-gallon bucket and touches the very bottom, so you don't need to worry about it falling in.
