Questions & Answers

What does the difference in #mil really mean. And is there one that is a more frosted look than another?

Asked by: Ward
In practical terms, the thickness of the plastic translates into durability, transparency, and weight. We use 0.7 mil plastic for hanging barriers, covering furniture or shrubs, and catching debris (almost like a giant plastic bag). We use 2 mil plastic when something might pierce a thinner plastic, or someone might walk on it for a short period of time. We use 4 mil plastic when it will be walked on for a long time (extended projects, such as covering the floor while painting something in the garage). The thicker the plastic the less transparent and more translucent it tends to be.

Good for jobs that require more protection than the lighter weight 0.7 mil plastic drop cloths. We keep these on hand to cover floors, or anything that might receive a bit of abrasion, during painting, staining, and plumbing projects, etc. They keep things clean, and help us avoid making extra clean-up projects. If the plastic will be walked on for days, or we think that heavy abrasion might occur, we use 4 mil sheeting. Having a good supply of these ready to go is very helpful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for Price This product did exactly what I wanted. I was masking off a room to tear out plaster and this did the job. If you think you can seal windows, replace your car window or line the cement pond with this you need to invest more money. If you cannot open the package without tearing the plastic ask your wife to do it for you.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do Not Waste Your Time or Money I purchased this brand in the store because the one I usually get was not in stock. It looks like wax paper but wax paper is actually sturdier. It is just too flimsy to be 2 mil. It is so very opaque, you can not see through it like other plastic drop cloths. I got two (2) puncture holes while opening up the package before I even used it.

I taped it to the bottom wall and spread it out. It worked great even after standing on it and moving ladders around on it. This is a great product for the price. It did exactly what I needed it to do.
