These D cells flat out rock. You won't be paying for bunny commercials or expensive marketing gimmicks with these batteries. You just get great performance. Ok, so what can you say about D-Cells? Well, in order to evaluate the performance of these batteries, we subjected them to an unscientific, but straight-forward endurance test using a pair of identical single D-Cell LED flashlights, one with the HDX battery and the other with a brand name competitor's alkaline equivalent. I was expecting this test to be over in a day or two. Incredibly, the flashlight test lasted just short of 14 days (see pictures), with both units shutting down late on Day 13. They both shone brightly for 10 days, then slowly faded until they were unable to keep the LEDs lit. Incredibly, the HDX battery was able to "recover" after an hour of sitting idly and re-light both flashlights. The competitor's battery could not light either flashlight following the test and rest period. The clear winner was the HDX D Cell. The performance of the HDX battery was truly impressive. The manufacturer also claims a 10 year shelf life, as well. That's a bit harder to test, but sounds amazing. So when it comes to battery life and ability to deliver power, you can't go wrong with these. With these batteries, you pay for performance, not hype. I highly recommend these.

Hmm.. They work. They have a 10 year shelf life. They come in a 12-pack and shrink wrapped in pairs. They are regular size D batteries. What else can I say about them to reach the minimum character requirement..? I got these for my lanterns for the last camping trip of the year. The batteries performed well and I had light! Can’t speak on longevity and different environments. They did last about what the lantern is rated for depending on the light setting. No complaints. Another good HDX product.

(What's this)
These are D cell batteries. They aren’t name brand, and the batteries I received looked different than what was initially shown in the product picture. Instead, the batteries I received looked like every HDX item I’ve ever seen: white and orange packaging with black lettering. I always have my doubts about things that are not name brand, but these cells live up the HDX name. They so far have lasted just as long as the other batteries I have in a flashlight that takes three D cells. They fit perfectly, and they have no visible flaws in the outer layer of the battery, which I’ve seen quite often on super cheap brands you can pick up in warehouse electronic stores. So far, I’m very happy with these HDX and look forward to the cost savings when purchasing replacements in other sizes. They are guaranteed ten years, just like the name brand units as well. Plus, it's a pack of twelve, so I won't be running out any time soon!

The HDX D-Cell alkaline batteries have expiration dates, are consistently charged to 1.62V (according to my multi-meter), shrink-wrapped in pairs and come in an easy to recycle cardboard box. I have not had them long enough to get a sense of their longevity. The box makes for handy battery storage and includes a cardboard divider so the batteries don’t touch terminals inside the box.

(What's this)
I was given a chance to check out the HDX Alkaline “D” sized battery (which arrived in a box of 12). These are, as of this writing, a new product for Home Depot and the set I received were a ‘pre-release’ set, so I don’t know what the regular market price will be; however, in my experience with Home Depot the “HDX” labeled tools and accessories tend to come in under whatever the “name-brands” market price is. I think it reasonable, based on that experience, to rate this new line of HDX batteries as a “good value”. I’m a homeowner/DIY’er and have the usual gadgets laying around that take “D” cells – primarily a MagLite flashlight that I keep in my 4x4, a couple of home flashlights, and a few camping lanterns that we use during power outages. Fit and finish of the HDX cells is good, no poor coatings or manufacturing marks. All twelve batteries arrived with no swelling or out-of-round casings. (I’ve had discount batteries in the past that had questionable quality control right out of the box – the HDX cells seem to be well constructed). The batteries are not made in the U.S. but are distributed by Home Depot. The expiration date on the cells I received is in 2027 (see photo). Home Depot offers a 90 return warranty on what they sell, and on the box (see photo) the batteries are guaranteed to last for 10 years in storage and are said to last “as long as leading national brands”. I installed the batteries in a flashlight and one of the camping lanterns and they provided a light comparable with the ‘name brand’ batteries I had previously installed. There’s no discernable difference that I can see. I can’t comment on longevity or how they’ll stack up in long term storage, I’ve not had them long enough for that. I don’t really worry too much about the 10 year expiration date – I go through batteries much faster than that. To me the “best installed by” date just indicates how fresh the batteries are that I’m picking up at the store. Likewise on battery leakage – it’s been years since I’ve had a battery left long enough in a device to deteriorate and leak. Devices I don’t use very often – such as the camping lanterns – aren’t normally stored with batteries installed. I keep ‘em next to each other and install when needed. Flashlights I check every few months and swap out the batteries before they go dead; I only had to be stuck on the road with a dead flashlight at night once to get me into that routine. Based on the construction, fit, and finish of the batteries I received, I think that the HDX cell compare favorably to the ‘name brand’ cells that I normally have on hand. HTH Regards, Jim

These batteries get the job done. Typically, I shy away from batteries that are not the customary name brand ones that we are all used to buying. Well, if these are any different from the name brands I certainly don’t see any difference. I tested them in a couple of my larger flash lights and a remote controlled toy truck. The lights were bright and consistent with their output. Time will tell if they last as long, but I see no early indications that they won’t. The remote controlled toy truck eats the name brand batteries (and every battery) for lunch and after several hours these were still running good, so that should save some money in the future for us. These look to be a good buy to me. I recommend

The first thing that liked about these batteries is that they do NOT come in one of those stupid plastic blister packages that you need a chain saw to get in to. A nice sturdy cardboard flip-open box that can be reused for the remaining batteries as you need them. The manufacturer claims that they have a 10-year shelf life, which would put them on par with any of the top brands. Without a scientific study, these seem to work as well and last as long, so for most applications, you can’t go wrong. Where I seem to have the most problem with batteries is when they have been left in an appliance for a long time and they start to corrode and end up damaging the appliance as well. It is too soon to tell with this brand if that will be a problem, but if it is, I will certainly update this review.

Great HDX Branded D Cell Dozen Battery Pack. I have been buying private label batteries for years and have found them more times than not and to be ever bit as reliable as the big names plus saving lots of money long term. These come in a flat box in two packs. I tested each one and they each had 1.68v. So no reason this should be these should not be in your shopping car. Bad weather means be prepared. They were fresh too. Got a full 10 years on them.

12-pack of D batteries, great for flashlights, gets the job done. These “HDX” branded D-cell batteries are perfect for use in all the flashlights you keep around the house in case of a power outage. They claim to be “Guaranteed to last 10 years in storage” I tested each one with a multi-meter and all 12 read 1.625 volts - consistency is usually a sign of good quality. FYI: The batteries pictured on the website carry a “Pairdeer” label, but the box and batteries say “HDX” (Home Depot’s brand) Note: We received this item free from Home Depot’s “Seeds” program. Home Depot only asked that we provide an honest review.
