Q:I believe the specs on the page to be incorrect. They are not 14.9" wide, more like 15.38-15.50" wide closed, and 17" wide with the flaps open.

Garage Overhead Storage Bins
Bought these clear bins today to hang overhead in my garage. They seem sturdy enough that I’ve essentially tied myself into the size as far as the width of my overhead rails. I like how the flip-up lids flex enough to allow me to overstuff the bins without breaking the lids. It’s probably early for me to be posting this review but I’ll definitely be buying four more to finish the job.

They don’t make ‘em like they used to. I found the boxes to be flimsier than ones I’ve purchased in years past.
They did, however meet the need - a small moving job. I bought them instead of cardboard boxes so the contents could be stored for a few months in a damp (sometimes wet) basement. The self closing lids and the translucent sides really work for this project too. No tape was required and I can see what’s inside when I need to look for something. And (!) the price is right!

Three of these storage totes fit on a 48 inch by 24 inch storage shelf with a few inches to spare in width. The clear container allows the contents to be seen. The lids are attached and offer full open access to the top. I use them on a Husky 5‐Shelf Heavy Duty Storage Unit in an unheated garage. Time will tell if they become brittle in cold weather.

I bought 2. One as a replacement. They get brittle after a decade of use. I used it as a hibachi grill and bbq supplies box, before I hit the bottom side with a dolly and cracked it.. The other one I am using to store collectables.
I like that they are stable when stacked. They are clear and easy to open. That is why I continue to buy this style is storage container in spite of it's flaw. They are not water tight. Don't leave them outside as storage.

I like the flip-top feature. I've used this style before and it's excellent for indoor, dust- and water-free conditions. I prefer the bins that have separate lids with snap-lock handles when I have to store certain items outside for some reason, as they are very secure against wind, dust, and water. And if stacking, I would trust their weight-bearing capability a little more than I would the flip-tops because of the seam opening across the center of the flip-top lid; I would fear possible breakage or other compromise in stacking several heavy totes atop each other. But for indoor and short-stack storage, the flip-top tote/crate is fine. Overall the bins are strong and sturdy, yet not heavy when empty, as some bins are, and the see-through plastic (or acrylic or whatever it's made of) is a must.

Disappointed in the quality. With light and infrequent handling, and never being dropped, they easily crack on the bottom and fall apart. I've had the bottom of two of their fail as I picked them up, spilling their contents. And a good number of the ones I've purchased had to be cleaned out when I got home because they were covered in bird poop from the inside of the store. The only redeeming quality about them is their price.
