Can more shelves be added

Asked by Gloria February 11, 2021

Yes. In that the shelves are adjustable, there are slots along the sides for 2 more shelves. The shelves are 13” deep, so you would have to make more of them out of plywood & put a strip of screen molding on the front. Also notch out the corners. Regular metal adjustable shelf clips might work. If not, cut a couple 1 x 6’s about 9” or 10” long and tuck them in along the sides to hold up your shelves. I did that for a larger cabinet we (also) bought. Actually it was Winter and we didn’t feel like going out in the garage to cut the boards, so I used some old books we weren’t using. That works too. Good luck. Be safe. Be well.

No, Rain will leak into the cabinet.

Mine is outside and has not. Two things I do : the back is protected by a wall and I always have a lock on the doors to keep it from blowing open.

How do the handles go on

There are two screws per handle that you are supposed to push the handles on. Even after I turned the screws a bit they still come right off.

Yes. The feet are included. Or supposed to be. I bought 5 HDX cabinets and one was missing the feet, but was rectified with a call to the company 800 number. They arrived a week later.

The cabinets were pretty easy to assemble once you get the hang of it. Once mounted on the wall, they were very sturdy and looked great. The shelves are their weakness. The bow in the middle with moderate weight. If they were to meet the weight rating per shelf, they wouldn't be very functional as the shelves would cause everything to sit in the middle. Overall they were a good buy for the money, just don't try to put too much weight in them.

BOTTOM LINE: It's cheap, and it's made to be cheap. If you don't open and close the doors often, and you don't need waterproof or major weight capacity, it'll work fine. It says "Multi-Purpose" in the description, but I don't think they contemplated my particular purpose, which is to protect an electronic gas meter from the elements. Even with the cutouts for pipes and tubes, and a big cutout in the base, it's holding up OK. It's not waterproof (I didn't expect it to be) and it depends an a somewhat flimsy back panel to keep it square. If you're going to use the top, or put any substantial weight in it, make sure you use sheet-metal screws (not provided) to secure the back panel to the top and the base to help keep it square. The only thing that keeps the doors shut is a little plastic nub that sticks out of the top and bottom of the door, and snaps into a recess in the top and base. This won't last, and is severely compromised if the cabinet doesn't stay square. I don't think it'll be very long before I have to duct-tape the doors shut, but in this application it only needs to be opened when the gas company technician needs to do maintenance on the meter (three or four times per year, at most).

Easy to assemble.. I wall mounted 7 of these in my garage this winter. The boxes arrived in a little rough shape but contents were fine. One of the boxes was missing the screw pack for attaching the handles, but that was easy fix. Comes with 2 shelves and I really don't see much need for more. The shelves are installed with 5 clips (1 at each corner and 1 mid-shelf along the back, which adds additional support to help keep the shelves from bowing). Needed to use remove some excess plastic from the molding process, but wasn't bad. If I needed more cabinets, I would buy more of these. If you require heavy duty storage then I would advise against them due to being plastic. But for most people I believe that these cabinets would work well.

The shelves work as described but actual shelves could have a center brace. The shelves tend to sag in the center. They have a 55lbs. weight max but seems more like 20lbs. Regardless, it works fine and cleans up the garage.

I rent out a space in my basement, and needed to secure my home networking equipment. I keep the equipment in the utility room, which is a shared space. I also needed a cabinet that was not metal so WiFi signals would not be blocked. This cabinet fulfills both of those requirements. As a bonus, the width of the cabinet fits amazingly perfect where I wanted it to go. A nice features is I could have chosen to hang it on a wall or use it in stand-along configuration. I my case I went with the latter. I think it's a great looking cabinet as well. I used a hole dozer drill bit, to cut a 2.5" hole in the back upper right corner, and that was plenty of room to feed my powerstrip plug and cable communication lines through. In the end I secure my smart powerstrip, cable modem, MOCA adapter, and 2 routers with plenty of room to spare. The back panel also has ribbing which I used to feed power and network cables between the shelves. The material is plastic so even with a padlock, a person could easily gain access with enough force, but that's not so much the point, as sending the signal that "I don't want you in here".

Great garage storage
We bought a full size floor cabinet and 4 upper cabinets (can be used as floor cabinets with the feet as well) for our garage. My husband compared the assembly to a Lego set! It is quite clever how the pieces fit together and become quite strong but lightweight cabinets. It was definitely easier with 2 people. The directions were all number/letter coded so it was easy to find what goes where. All assembly parts were included (other reviewers said otherwise). You really need to hang them onto studs and we needed to drill our own holes and use our own nails/screws for that purpose. They didn't line up to drill into 2 studs and we were worried about the weight they could hold, so we hung a wooden shelf below them that they could sit on. Problem solved. Our garage looks great, clean and neat. We liked that they are plastic for easy cleaning and maintenance. Holds lots of stuff! Great product for the value.

For the price a good deal
The cabinet is serving us well. I use it on a screened porch. The plastics cabinet is just what I needed for outdoors. Was easy to assemble.

Great value
Nice and easy to put together. I also added 1/4 inch fittings for wheels. Works great.

Works well, but is it worth the price?
I was looking forward to getting this shelving unit, and while it's serving a purpose, it was not quite the quality that I was hoping for, and I think that perhaps I overpaid for it.

Looks good and easy on the wallet
Was very easy to put together, and gave the garage a very clean look. I used L brackets to mount the cabinets to the wall and added a few mirrors for looks.
