Safe for fire place termination

Asked by Mick October 21, 2020

Answer

Hi, Mick - Thanks for the question. Both may be ok based on your particular installation. CSST can be used inside the fireplace in certain applications but we usually recommend terminating it outside the firebox and finishing the install with black iron pipe. Check out pages 33 and 34 of our HomeFlex CSST Design & Installation Manual at this link for details. It should address any questions or concerns you may have. http://homeflex.com/downloads/HOME-FLEX_Installation_Manual.pdf

Can I screw a piece of black pipe into the bottom and a gas valve on top.

Asked by WeedhighWillie September 20, 2018

The gas valve is installed to the treads of the compression nut after it (the nut) is installed into the flange. The yellow pipe you attached to the flange can then be attached to a black pipe fifing with the proper fittings.

Can this be used on the exterior?

Yes

Does there need to be a rubber O-ring?

Asked by BDDFC September 9, 2016

Answers

No rubber o-ring required. There is a flat rubber seal included. But, be very careful when installing to not tear the rubber seal. The correct procedure to rotate the flange body while tightening. This implies a connection must be completed to the flange before final mounting. Instructions are included.

does the yellow gas line fit on the back of the flange

Asked by Thomas June 7, 2015

Answers

No. The yellow gas line is fed from the back (the smooth side) toward the front. The keeper ring is then installed into the first valley of the pipe and the compression nut tightened.

A little bit expensive but well worth it. Allows almost impossible installation to occur. Previous homeowner had installed black iron to stove but due to duct work and plumbing could not put in wall so the stove was 4" out from wall thus 4" beyond lip of counter. Two hours after purchasing my problem was resolved

Worked 1st time; no leaks
I ran 45 feet of 3/4" CSST to my new gas range from a 1-1/4" black pipe feed. I read all the directions and meticulously prepared each end of the home-flex pipe to receive the fittings. I tightened the flange to the fitting, holding the fitting still while turning only the flange. I believe this allows the bare csst pipe to pull up and scrunch against the fitting gasket. If the fitting is turned against the flange, it will only shred the gasket rather than pull the bare pipe tight to the gasket. Anyway, it all worked great the first time without any leaks. Also, be careful when squeezing the brass retainer ring onto the pipe. The metal nicks easily and I took a good chunk out of the 1st ring I used. Luckily I did buy an extra pack of rings so I could try with another one.

Excellant for transition from CSST to black pipe
I recently re-piped my entire basement. Even though the instructions show dropping the CSST to the water heater - I used this instead. I mounted a support 2 x 6 with a 1.5 inch hole to the floor joists above the basement (water heater located in basement) and brought the flex line through the hole to the termination plate - connected the termination plate to the CSST then secured the termination plate to the 2 x 6. Then I attach a threaded coupler 18 inch black pipe, shut-off valve, 48 inch black pipe and drip tee (code required) at the end of the termination plate. Gas inspector was impressed during final inspection.

Met my expectations. They use a single ring feral versus the two ring style that's sold at the plumbing supply houses. Nevertheless, it held pressure and passed inspection.
