A:  Hi, Mick - Thanks for the question. Both may be ok based on your particular installation. CSST can be used inside the fireplace in certain applications but we usually recommend terminating it outside the firebox and finishing the install with black iron pipe. Check out pages 33 and 34 of our HomeFlex CSST Design & Installation Manual at this link for details. It should address any questions or concerns you may have. http://homeflex.com/downloads/HOME-FLEX_Installation_Manual.pdf

        Answer This Question

A:  Of course you should always check your local code but why would you want an additional connection between your manifold and your appliance? You could drill a hole in the base cabinet and terminate the line directly into the appliance. fewer connections means fewer places for leaks.

Used to replace the black iron stub at the cooktop. The stub and shut off valve was poking through the cabinet bottom at a sloppy angle. Now a straight and clean installation covering the hole. Only complaint is HOME-FLEX CSST fittings are not compatible with the existing CSST tubing brand my builder used so I had to replace the existing tubing as well.

Hi, RustyB - That's correct. One manufacture's CSST fittings should not be used with another manufacturer's tubing. In that they may say they're the same size (1/2" for example), pipe and fittings may actually be slightly different dimensionally and have not been tested and certified for use together. Thanks for the nice review! ValenciaPipe

A little bit expensive but well worth it. Allows almost impossible installation to occur. Previous homeowner had installed black iron to stove but due to duct work and plumbing could not put in wall so the stove was 4" out from wall thus 4" beyond lip of counter. Two hours after purchasing my problem was resolved

                Worked 1st time; no leaks
I ran 45 feet of 3/4" CSST to my new gas range from a 1-1/4" black pipe feed. I read all the directions and meticulously prepared each end of the home-flex pipe to receive the fittings. I tightened the flange to the fitting, holding the fitting still while turning only the flange. I believe this allows the bare csst pipe to pull up and scrunch against the fitting gasket. If the fitting is turned against the flange, it will only shred the gasket rather than pull the bare pipe tight to the gasket. Anyway, it all worked great the first time without any leaks. Also, be careful when squeezing the brass retainer ring onto the pipe. The metal nicks easily and I took a good chunk out of the 1st ring I used. Luckily I did buy an extra pack of rings so I could try with another one.

Excellant for transition from CSST to black pipe
I recently re-piped my entire basement. Even though the instructions show dropping the CSST to the water heater - I used this instead. I mounted a support 2 x 6 with a 1.5 inch hole to the floor joists above the basement (water heater located in basement) and brought the flex line through the hole to the termination plate - connected the termination plate to the CSST then secured the termination plate to the 2 x 6. Then I attach a threaded coupler 18 inch black pipe, shut-off valve, 48 inch black pipe and drip tee (code required) at the end of the termination plate. Gas inspector was impressed during final inspection.
