I have been a pipe fitter for a long time now, mostly big welded pipe, but i always amazes me how many people think they know more than everybody else!! any way please listen to guy that says no. if you can make the connection outside where gas comes in even better. you dont want water to have another place to get in and ruin your day. there is my one and a half cent answer

You must use the Home-Flex risers that convert the yellow pipe to metal pipe with standard pipe threads.

I assume since it is for direct burial it does fine with freezing in the winter months?

I suppose you could, but it is meant for underground use. Just be sure the line is not exposed to uv light, because it will break down the polyenthylene.

Hi Koyotee, This 3/4" gas pipe has a minimum field bend radius of 26.25 inches. I like to think of it as having the ability to curve and not make tight bends. Sometime the use of a 90 degree elbow fitting is necessary.

This may sound stupid but I only need about 250ft can the rest be used for water line use?

Asked by Hoffs June 15, 2018

Answers

Hi Hoffs, This pipe is only approved for use as an underground gas pipe for natural gas or propane. It is not approved for use with drinking water. There is nothing harmful in the materials used to make this pipe, but it has not been tested nor approved for drinking water. If you use it for irrigation water you will be experimenting, because it has never been tested for this purpose. Plus it is marked as gas pipe and that may raise flags if it is seen installed above ground.

I know this can be run underground and in crawl spaces but can it be used to supply a fire pit.

PE gas pipe is not intended for above ground us. So a riser will be needed (steel pipe schedule 40)

Can this product be used for propane?

This poly pipe system is great for installing underground propane piping. No need to join many lengths like with iron pipe. No need to dig straight trenches, we could curve it around obstacles. The riser elbows made the into and out of the ground ends easy.

Ordered for pickup in person. After getting items home, discovered that they had been used and were not new in their package. Fortunately all pieces were intact, but assembled incorrectly. Had to re-work to get back to correct position for use.

Not Happy
I am a professional and have run many gas lines of various sizes in 30 + years. Against my better judgement I purchased these thinking it was good idea and 3/4" is generally easy to work with. I'm used to the sweeps having the stab fitting in place and just push the pipe inside. I have the proper chamfering tools for ease of fit. I did have to fuss with the 2 I had, to seal and hold pressure. Job took twice as long as it should have. I was cringing as I was tightening to finally seal off. Plastic like this generally jump off the threads when you over tightening. I don't recommend these coupling. Do yourself a favor and use the stab couplings from a plumbing supply. You can purchase an inexpensive chamfer tool online

Response from VPC, Home-Flex ExpertOctober 26, 2020
Hi, Poolguy86 - We're sorry to hear that you had a negative experience with our product especially since we have had thousands of successful installations. You mentioned chamfering tools. Please be advised that our HomeFlex underground poly pipe does not need to be chamfered. In fact, it's counter-productive. Simply ensure the pipe is cut cleanly, insert the stiffener from the coupler/tee provided, and slide the tube into the fitting bottoming it out against the black main body. Tighten the fitting hand-tight, then apply 2 pliers to the fitting and give it another 1/4 turn. No need to tighten too much. We invite you to refer to our very comprehensive and helpful CSST Design & Installation Manual at http://homeflex.com/downloads/HOME-FLEX_Installation_Manual.pdf. Thank you for your review.
