AnswerYou may not be setting it properly. Hook the long rod that is on the outside into the hole on the top. Try that without using the hook that swings around by the door.

This live animal trap appears to be pretty well made. Each "square" of the metal cage is about 1 inch square. It is about 24" long and a little over 7" wide and tall. I have had a different well-known brand for many years so I am familiar with how they work in general. However, there were no directions included, so it took me a little bit of trial and error to set it properly. As opposed to some other brands that make you set two rods or levers together, this just requires that you hook the long rod along the side into the hole on top. Easy, once you realize what is needed.
In my opinion, the trap door hangs down sort of low (a little less than 6") when set. I haven't had much success with it yet, but I hope that changes in spring when the rodents I hope to catch are much more active. I see that they make a similar larger unit in this brand.

These traps are the humane solution for relocating pesky animals. Set the door open with the spring-loaded catch and lure them in with their favorite food. Once they step on the plate, the door will be released and they cannot get out. The animal is far enough away from the door that it won’t snap shut on them; they won’t be injured when the door closes. You can then safely carry them away by using the wire handle located at the top of the trap. To protect you there is a metal plate at the base of the handle so the animal cannot bite or scratch you.
This trap is 24”L x 7”H x 7”W; it is perfect for small animals such as squirrels, rabbits, skunks, rats, even birds.
The trap is made of rust-resistant metal. It is smooth on the inside so the animals won’t be harmed. It comes fully assembled and ready to use (you supply the bait, of course!).

HOMESTEAD Large 1-Door Professional Humane Steel Live Animal Cage Trap (Raccoons, Opossums, Groundhogs, Skunks, Feral Cats) review: This trap works extremely well for capturing small animals. It has a trap floor at the back of the cage. You place food at the very back and wait. The animal wanders in to the back of the cage and hits that trap and the trap slams shut. It worked very well for us and did not harm the cat we trapped. There ya go!

I just got this HOMESTEAD Large 1-Door Professional Humane Steel Live Animal Cage Trap. You can use it for all sorts of pest The size of Raccoons, Opossums, Groundhogs, Skunks, Feral Cats. This trap comes fully assembled and comes in a green powered coated finish. The trap is simple to use. The trick is where to place it and what type of bait for what you want to trap. Check the internet for best results. Great feature of this trap is it is humane and will not harm the animal and you can release in a safe place.

I was content to let the groundhog live under my deck until he started digging up my wife’s flowerbeds. At that point, I was looking for a humane way to save the flowerbeds which meant getting rid of the groundhog. This trap seemed like the easiest way to do that. The trap is large enough to accommodate him and the lock on the door secure enough to hold him safely. There is a steel plate to protect my hand when picking up a loaded trap and a safety latch to hold the door open while baiting the trap. Setup was easy and I now have the trap located on one of his paths out. Can't wait to see what happens next.

It’s a jungle out there! Anyone who has a bird feeder in the back yard that’s close to the ground or a garden without a protective fence knows exactly what I’m talking about. I’ve had several birds killed around my bird bath and feeders by the numerous feral cats in my area, and critters getting into my garden eating my tomatoes and cantaloupes. Adding a little fence helped some in the garden, but the cats were a real problem. The first night I put the trap out I caught one of the big, nasty, black feral cats that has been terrorizing my feeders for weeks. Since it was caught unharmed, I simply relocated it to some heavy woods about a mile away. I suspect I’m going to be relocating a lot of cats! PS: leftover fried chicken works great!

This is a large cage animal trap which I hope to use to catch some feral cats that are coming onto my property and relocate them. The cage is 1 foot tall and 3 feet long, so big enough to hold most critters. It is pretty durable against rust with the wire mesh used in construction and has a heavy duty spring loaded door, and a nice handle to carry the cage with an animal inside. I was happy there was no assembly, and it comes in a big box. I'll have to see if the trap works well for cats using food as bait. This is a really useful product to have around your home if there are woods nearby and critters are getting into your pet's food or garbage.

Worked great,put the trap out in backyard with peanut butter next morning squirrel in the trap. Took the squirrel to the park 5 miles away and it was easy to let him out of the trap at his new home. he eat about $1000 of my spa wires.I have the trap set again incase he comes back.
