Product Details

Crossheads/architraves are large casings that are typically placed at the top of a doorway or large entryway. The crosshead extends across the tops of the vertical side casings and is finished off with return cuts. Architraves have been popular ever since the Romans used them for elaborate structures and support. When used as an crosshead at the top of a doorway, it is recommended to combine with casings that are less than 3/4 in. thick.

  • Intended for use with a maximum 34 in. door with a maximum 3 in. wide casing

          The Look Without the Work
          We are working on a 200 year old house. The windows are an important feature of the house. We have 27 windows, and if we can save ourselves some work, we are all for it. We decided to use these moldings as an apron to finish off the bottom of the windows. They are exactly the right size for our projects and they already have a return on each end, which is a big time saver for us.

            Had to hunt the different stores to find enough of these in stock. Very well made, and in perfect condition. I plan to use these all throughout our restoration project. Perfect for above and below windows, as well as above entrances and doorways. Both ends have a fully finished return on them, so check your measurements. This being 42 inches is the perfect size for all of my projects. The wood can be painted or stained. I am thrilled to install these in my house.
