was it easy to work within the existing hole/space or did you have to cut the drywall ceiling?
Asked by: Roe
I had to widen the hole by about an inch in order for the brace to fit between the (old) hole and the joist. Ceiling fan base covered the expanded hole.

will be stalled?
Asked by: Fearless
It should not fall if you expand the bracwe securely against the joists.

Can this be used in a wall instead of on a ceiling? I have a bathroom fixture that needs a box where there isn't one currently (the light fixture serves as the box right now). In other words, I tried to take down the current fixture and there is no box, just wires coming out of a hole in the sheetrock.
Asked by: AustinCAL
It will work, but you may be better with an "old work" box - which fastens to the wallboard or plaster.

Does this work with dropped ceilings?

I need to install three fans and a hanging light fixture in our basement. The basement has a dropped ceiling with approximately 8 inches between the ceiling tiles and the rafters. I want the bases of the fans and the light fixture to be snug up to the ceiling tile.
Asked by: FluffysMom
No. it works by pressing against the joists on either side of the opening, and those framing members are not present in a dropped ceiling.

This one is very sturdy and help the ceiling fan in its place. It was an easy install. Hardest part was disassembling and reassembling the ceiling fan without instructions.

No matter how tight the box is mounted to the bar, the whole thing still wobbles. I thought maybe it wasn't tight enough, so of course I put another couple turns on the nut and stripped the threads. If your going to attach a fan, it will inevitably wobble. Choose another brace.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from works great I purchase the 2 1/8" deep one at a green Midwest store, when it's installed the box is actually about an 1/8" inside the drywall and I installed a hunter Douglas morelli model fan which has the base plate with four rubber bumpers that contact the ceiling beyond the 4" box. Mine is solid with no wobbles or anything, granted as well that this box/brace was only $14 and the same 70/110 with 16" span and 35/50 fan/fixture with a 24" span rating (which is how far apart my joists were) Also I had a braced light support only fixture I had to partially remove and this was able to straddle the parts still attached to the joists that I couldn't remove without going into the attic.
