I do not like the light from an LED bulb, can I use a halogen or incandescent bulb with this?

Asked by Bulb April 7, 2020
1
Answer

Yes, you could use a non-LED bulb, you would just need to follow the recommendations for compatible bulbs, which I believe is printed on a sticker inside the can if it's not listed in the specs. Compatible bulbs are probably listed on the manufacturers website as well if its not on Home Depot's given specs.

Is this dimmable?

Asked by Lori November 17, 2019

Answers

the can itself is not a dimmable item. but the bulb you put in there, can be. yes. the best way to go now is these retrofit lights. they fit well, they close off the can with the fixture itself, you do not need to buy a trim ring or baffle, the new LED retrofit light is a one piece unit that looks nice and works well. if you buy a dimmable light, it will be dimmable. most of these new retrofit kits are dimmable

Two stars for cheaping out. Bad form Halo for two items. First, there are only two little fins to hold this in place. Really? You realize that these are going into ceilings right? And ceilings predominantly consist of sheet rock? While working up in the attic attaching the power to these, one of the little wings went through the sheet rock and damaged the ceiling. Thanks alot guys. Right, I should have been more careful, of course. But I have to say it didn't take that much to have it go through. Three would certainly have spread the pressure much more evenly. Come on guys, pick up the game. Now, for number two. The joke you play with the weather stripping isn't funny. Make up your minds. Are you going to put it on the side of the can or on the lip? Half and half doesn't work. The wiring connections worked great for me although I have read some complaining about them. If you are installing a bunch of these, buy the hole saw that has blades and a plastic surround. Home Depot carries the Milwaukee version - just be aware that the 5.5 inch measure isn't 5.5 inches. You'll have to go to the 5.75 to get a big enough hole as it is off. Measure your distances to be sure. My recommendation to use these is tempered by my comments - beware.

This remodel can is great. I used to be a Residential Electrician and remember the old way that you secured the cans. The new design is much easier. 2 screw which turn a tab. Great job Halo. Also the pre wired push in connectors are great as well.

I purchased these recessed housings to hold my phillips hue smart downlights. The cans were easy to install and fit snugly into their holes that I cut. I was pleased at how easily they mounted into the ceiling and how easy they are to wire. The wires fit snuggly into the housing and are plug and play. Overall, I am quite impressed at the quality and simplicity of these ceiling mounts.

Hi Friends This is (without a doubt) the best product to install lights in an existing ceiling. It's amazing how great they are ... really, a lot of great improvements have been made from earlier versions. After 40 years of electrical work, I can tell you that these are the very best choice for quality and ease of installation. The 5 inch style is best, because it uses the same trim (as 6") in a smaller hole, so you can cover mistakes easier. Make sure you get the LED trims to go with it! Good luck!

Excellent product. I just finished installing it and I had no issues. Followed instructions for connections, almost expecting it to fail, cause it seemed too easy, but it didn't! :) I am very pleased with the fit. Some people on the reviews mentioned that you had to cut the hole exact for this to be able to attach and work properly. So I cut the holes exact, not even passing the line I had marked with the template, but it was too tight, so I cut the hole a hair wider ( like setting the blade right on the line), and then it went in nice and snug.. very snug.. So, I would say there is a little room for error here and there, just be careful. Also, I made sure I pushed it tight against the ceiling and held it firmly while tightening the screws, and once I hit some resistance I stopped tightening, let go, and it kept it right in place. Great stuff!!!

don't follow the template
My template was for a five and a half inch hole and the fixture will not fit in that hole the drawing on this listing shows a 5-3/4" hole and that is more like it i bought twenty three fixtures and they all had instructions for a 5-1/2" hole if it were not for these awsome clips which makes my 3/4" beadboard ceilings possible I would have had a meltdown! I now am a proud owner of some worthless 5-1/2" hole saws and try buying a 5-3/4" hole saw... in the picture is a 5-1/2" inch hole with paper template and the fixture fits ok in the 6" hole

There are 4 Home Depots between my house and work so I shop at all 4. ONLY one store carries this light. I bought it because of the tabs that hold it down. I love the post production electrical boxes that use them. The tabs on these cans don't pull the lip to the ceiling, the can remains loose . It took me several trips and Finally I had to take the light back into the store to get the right ring which required the removal of screws and adjusting the base to allow the ring to fit then the ring does not fit flush. Finally pulled both back out and made minor adjustments and placed them in the trash. I will replace them with some other brand

I originally bought them to replace two existing can lights. I love the flip out wall grips ( in wall sockets) . Neither one pulled upork flush. Had to go to 4 different stories to find the trim rings which did not fit to the ceiling either. Inside of rhetoric rings are hideous and it takes a special 30.00 bulb. It was finally too much so I found the proper place for them. In the trash. I will never buy another HALO product as long as I live.
