It depends on the trim that you are going to use with this housing. List of trims and compatible lamps are listed on the spec sheet. Please use the below link to spec sheet for more details. https://images.homedepot-static.com/catalog/pdfImages/eb/eb047ecd-6efb-43b5-bfa4-2f0ccc00e135.pdf

I had the same issues, not easy getting the clips to stay up once the can is in place. I took my drywall saw and shaved off a very small amount in the area where the clips go up. I put the clips in place on the canTHEN pushed the can up the hole. That seems to work the best. Hope that makes sense.

Asked by chibear November 29, 2019

Answer

I believe the plate is mostly there as a heat shield for incandescent bulbs. I've done both - remove the plate and let the socket dangle, and with other bulbs/trim, I've had to bend the springs on the trim to fit up top. Just go easy with the snap clips that hold it on to the drywall, they are a pain - there HAS to be a better solution for this.

Will these work with the Halo RL56129S1EWHR and RA56069S1EWHP LED light kits?

I don't remember exactly which Halo model number I installed in mine, but it is an LED conversion light.

Can I use a heat lamp bulb in this housing?

Asked by Aidan June 6, 2019

Answer

No, you need a heat lamp fixture. The over temperature cutout will likely trip. Frequently, they package a heat lamp with an exhaust fan for a bathroom application.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SHALLOW HOUSING BECAUSE IT IS TOO SHALLOW FOR MOUNTING A HALO LED CONVERSION RECESSED LIGHT. THE TOP OF THE LED LIGHT INTERFERES WITH THE SCREW-IN SOCKET PLUG AND DOES NOT ALLOW THE BEZEL TO REST FLUSH AGAINST THE CEILING. IT IS ABOUT 3/8 OF AN INCH SHY OF BEING DEEP ENOUGH. ALSO THE FOUR RETAINING SPRING CLIPS ARE USELESS AND I HAD TO SCREW THE HOUSING IN PLACE BEHIND THE CEILING. OBVIOUSLY THE SALESPERSON WAS NOT AWARE OF THE INTERFERENCE PROBLEM WHEN USING THIS HALO SHALLOW HOUSING WITH THE HALO BRAND LED CONVERSION LIGHTS. NOW I NEED TO CREATE SOME KIND OF A SPACER RING TO MAKE UP THE DIFFERENCE AND ALLOW THE LIGHT FLANGE TO REST ON SOMETHING SOLID.

Love the new lighting!!!
Needed to add lighting in kitchen. Purchased 4 can lighting. Modern upgrade. simple to install in exhisting ceiling. Templet came with them, easy to use to get measurements of placement before cutting holes. Easy to wire, snaps in place to drywall. I will be buying more to install in my office next.

good Buy!
I decided to buy this product to replace an old ugly fluorescent light that was in the kitchen, when I bought the house. After further inspection the fluorescent light was giving me problems over 2 years so I decided to replace it with a new fluorescent kit or recess lighting. I decided to go with recess lighting remodel, so I can place the recessed lights where I want them to produce more light at. The recessed lighting was easy to install, and you can place the lights where you want them, it makes a difference and looks great, giving off much more light. I know it was a good investment.

Perfect for LED Lights
This review will be short and simple. After all we are only talking about a Recessed Lighting Housing fixture. Prior to buying this unit for a remodel that I am performing in my kitchen I read the reviews for the housing. The one thing that caught my attention were the complaints about the LED light not fitting far enough inside of the fixture. In slight of the negative complaints I decided to give the unit a chance. Well, as stated by others the light did not fight flush inside of the fixture. However, after examining what was causing the light not to slip completely inside of the housing I quickly arrived at a simple solution. I simply took a pair of wire pliers and bent the spring clip just below the end. That allowed me to install the light as it is intended to be installed with minimum effort. I have attached two photos. The upper unit is as it is provided by the manufacturer and the bottom unit is the modified one. I hope that this helps.

Not compatible with Halo LED lights
Bought these to go with halo LED which are supposed to be compatible - they are not. Light sat 1/4 to 3/8" proud of the housing so there's would be a gap to the ceiling. I returned them.
