I am installing 6 of these recessed lights in my small kitchen - using the trim 993W. I am confused - do I have to use LED bulbs? What is recommended for kitchen that will produce good light without shadows? Thanks.
Asked by: Matt
These units will take either type of bulb. Just buy the same style as specified. They come in both LED and incandescent I just used LED's in my lining room and they work fine.

Can I use dimmable LED's with this housing?
Asked by: Frankie
Sure. "Dimmable" has nothing to do with the housing; only with the baffle (LED) and the dimmer.

H99 4 in. Steel Recessed Lighting Housing for Remodel Ceiling, No Insulation Contact, Air-Tite is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 181.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Tough install on the surface, this fixture does not seem so different from the 6" Commercial Electric fixtures. However, the template provided for the ceiling opening is too large, preventing the fixture flange from seating evenly around its circumference. Unfortunately, I cut all of my holes before discovering this. Because of this, the fit at the ceiling is not snug and the thumb clasps are tough to engage without the fixture floating off-center of the hole and revealing a gap. I installed six Commercial Electric fixtures in about 15 minutes. It took 30 minutes each to install two of the Halo fixtures, trying to get the fixture to securely seat. Fortunately, the Halo LED inserts have a forgiving flange size and conceal the offending housing. If you plan to use this fixture, measure and make your own template and discard the one from the manufacturer. Better yet, my recommendation -- use the Commercial Electric housings and match with the Halo insert. You will save time and aggravation.

This remodel light is simple to install and has the Edison base bulb receptacle that can be used for any modern LED light or any other type of standard light bulb. It does not have the stupid title 24 wire plug that limits you on your trim options. I love these!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Questionable spring clip design, bad QC First of all, considerable force has to be used to snap the spring into position. The instructions never mentioned this. A typical careful home owner would not have used such force without being instructed to do so. One of six lamps that I installed had one spring that did not snap in, no matter how much force I used. It is impossible to remove the other springs to remove the lamp to check the defective spring. Talking to the manufacturer was not of much help.I am still at a loss on what to do. Another lamp did not turn on (probably a failure of the thermal protection switch). I still have not figured out a way to remove the lamp to check the protection switch, short of cutting down that part of the ceiling. Yet another lamp had one conductor not connected to the quick connect block. Since it was a twisted wire conductor, it was rather difficult to push it into the quick connector without a special tool. The lamp is very nice looking. I would have recommended this if it were not for the questionable (spring clip) design, and the extremely poor quality control.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Directions are awful, but product looks good once you realize how to install. The directions were awful. Here is the solution. As I was pushing in the clips to install they kept popping back out. As the rubber coating on the clips started wearing away I realized there was a little nub on the clips. On the nub you could easily use a flat head screw driver to help push the clip up further then I was able to with my fingers alone. Some people may not have this problem if they have thinner drywall, but mine was thicker fireproof drywall which was probably why I had such a hard time. So if you are having trouble with the clips popping out, try using the flat head screw driver. They popped right in using that. Hope this helps people out!
