Smart Smoke and CO Alarm

Overview

This Halo Hardwired Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detector has raised the bar for what a smoke alarm can do. Equipped with the gold standard, as recommended by the NFPA in smoke detection, photoelectric and ionization sensors work in tandem to detect both fast flaming and smoldering smoke fires, while carbon monoxide, heat, humidity and even barometric sensors round out this alarm for the future, helping to reduce false alarms while adding a level of safety not seen in homes until now. If Halo senses a problem, a voice alert will instantly tell you what is wrong, a ring of light illuminates and you will get an alert on your Smartphone. Behind every smoke alarm we build are years of development, testing and integration. That means an ever-growing list of smart home platform partners like Iris, SmartThings, Alexa and others.

Questions & Answers

Can I add alarm when my main door open?

Asked by: Tony
I don't believe so Tony. Federal regulation prohibits using a smoke and CO detector for any other alarm purpose. I bought a separate siren/strobe alarm for that purpose. John

What other devices does the halo app work with? e.g. doorbell, alarms, motion sensors, video
Asked by: videophonegeek
The only devices that the Halo Smart App itself has only ever worked with are the Halo and the Halo+ Smoke Alarms and was certified to work with Alexa. The Halo and Halo+ Smoke alarms could alternatively, but not simultaneously, be connected to a hub produced by either Iris or SmartThings via Zigbee. Alexa functionality could only be enabled via a wifi connection with the Halo Smart App and Halo user account. I just received an email from Halo Smart Labs: "Dear Halo customers, It is with our sincere apologies that we must let you know that Halo Smart Labs is closing its doors...Over the next couple of weeks, direct support for Halo devices using the Halo app will be disconnected, leaving them unable to connect to the internet and deliver messages including hazard notifications and emergency contact ability. Our recommendation for those customers who wish to retain these features is to connect the Halo smoke alarms to a hub produced by either Iris or SmartThings. Is this product going to be restocked or is it no longer sold through Home Depot?

Asked by: Jcs
I received this email from Halo Smart Labs yesterday: Dear Halo customers, It is with our sincere apologies that we must let you know that Halo Smart Labs is closing its doors. You may have noticed a lack of available product and support responses, and we apologize for taking so long to let you know what is going on. While we are proud to have created a best in class product, it takes more than a great product to make a great business. Despite the best efforts of our team, ultimately the resources required to continue making and supporting Halo products were beyond our reach. Over the next couple of weeks, direct support for Halo devices using the Halo app will be disconnected, leaving them unable to connect to the internet and deliver messages including hazard notifications and emergency contact ability. Our recommendation for those customers who wish to retain these features is to connect the Halo smoke alarms to a hub produced by either Iris or SmartThings. These connected home systems intend to continue to provide connectivity and support for Halo devices and offer some additional benefits beyond the previous Halo app. We at Halo recognize that your support of our products was no small investment, and we truly wish we could have found a way to provide a better outcome for your experience. Thank you for including us in your search for ways to make your home smarter and safer, and for letting us be a part of your lives.

How instalation on celing

Asked by: Aseres
For installation on the ceiling, the alarm must be hard wired in. The base plate is then screwed into the ceiling, the power is connected and the Halo is attached to the plate.

Because the HALO requires 120 VAC it required some expected new wiring but my old house (circa 1952) and a WiFi network project slowed my progress.

Attractive design and intuitive App. I love the ability to control the color of the night light feature. Most importantly I'm also comforted knowing I will be warned in case of fire or carbon monoxide...even if I am not at home when it happens through the cellular App. Check out the purple haze halo in the attached pic.

(note: you can only enroll the smoke alarm with the free Halo app or your SmartHub app, but not both) Purchased from HD, since they cost $30 less than Halo website. Use these as night lights in kids room, but only 15 or 30 minutes.

The plethora of different sensor technology is great at preventing false positives (like a burned pizza). Also, SmartLabs can remotely diagnose sensor errors and provide excellent customer service. They are a little expensive, but smoke / CO detectors are not the sort of thing you should skimp on.
