Customer Reviews

1-Light Brushed Nickel Swing Arm Wall Lamp with White Pleated Fabric Shade is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 124.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Adequate, with issues The lamp works, and it's pretty sturdy, so I can't complain. But the hinges on the arm are very tight and almost need both hands to move, so not something you can easily do one-handed while lying down in bed. The brushed nickel was a mistake, I should have gotten something with a different finish....CHEAP and TACKY looking! Also, I wish somebody in the industry would get with it and produce a harp for this type of lamp that will fit around the big bases of CFLs. They finally came out with 3-way CFLs, and I'm all for being green, but they simply do not fit in this lamp because of the way the harp is shaped (and they're all made this way...I've been to the biggest lighting stores in the region looking for a substitute). I read that another buyer managed to reshape his with a couple of vise grips, but I'm not going to attempt that...I'd end up breaking it. Maybe my nephew can weld something for me. All in all, it's a decent lamp but not anything special. Adequate, with issues.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality Control We purchased the exact same two swing arm lamps from Hampton Bay a few years ago and were very happy with them. In August of 2014, We decided to purchase two more swing arm lamps for another room. After purchasing the two from Home Depot, i began to install them. The first one was easy to install BUT the knob to turn on the lamp was stripped and the lamp could not be operated. I installed the second purchased lamp and IT HAD EXACTLY THE SAME DEFECT. I returned them to the store and figured this couldn't happen again,so I exchanged them for two of the same exact lamps. Both of the NEW lamps HAD EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM. Obviously, the quality control process of the Hampton Bay company needs improvement. It appears as if the entire lot sent to the Home Depot store was defective. After returning the lamps to the store, I went to Lowe"s and purchased two swing arms lamps manufactured by another company. Home Depot should complain to the manufacturer because they lost a sale due to their poor quality control.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from attractive lamp It's very easy to install. You just attach the back plate to your wall. it comes with screws and the things that help the screws stay in the wall.. and then you line up the lamp with the plate and just screw the little caps on. I did it myself and it's still hanging on the wall. :) The arm of the lamp is very stiff to move. I doesn't move easily and I have to use 2 hands. I haven't tried oiling that joint yet but that may help. It's a very attractive as far as wall lamps go. The brushed nickel is very nice and has an interesting detail along the edge of the plate that goes on the wall.. It also comes with a matching metal cord cover that goes over the cord, and keeps the cord hidden, and straight. The cord cover just screws together very easily. It's a good lamp, and it was a good price. It comes with a white shade which looks very nice with it, and it gives off a lot of light. The major drawback is the darn stickers they put on the lamp arm. The ones that say what kind of light bulbs to use.. they don't peel off, and they don't wash off. I'm going to have to use some sort of glue remover to get them off. I suggest you take off the stickers BEFORE you hang the lamp. Aside from the stickers.. it's a great lamp.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for... THE GOOD- it was cheap, it puts out light, has cord cover, looks decent. THE BAD- it is made cheap. The knobs are difficult to operate because the bulb housing is jammed so far down that it inhibits the knob from turning. (we bought 2 and they are both the same way)The knobs are so tight, it is painful to use them. You will have to do some work to get them to hang straight on the wall because the base plates and the bolts used to hang the lamp are not cut straight, made so poorly (cheap) and extend at different angles. We had some concern that if we tried to straighten the bolts they might break off. THE UGLY- The safety stickers are glued on in all the visible places and very difficult to remove. It will take alot of work (and maybe a blow torch) to get the labels and all the glue off. Would not recommend to a friend...or probably even an enemy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointed! We bought this lamp because we liked the looks of it and the price was reasonable. We installed it without any problems and thought we'd enjoy it for a long time to come. However, within a day or two at most, the on/off switch broke off. We fooled around and tried to fix it because we liked the lamp a lot, then decided to exchange it for another one just like it. Good thing I insisted we try the on/off switch before we left the store because it broke off immediately. The bottom line is that no matter how reasonably priced, easy to install or attractive a lamp is, it isn't much good if you can't turn it on and off.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from very nice wall lamp & no problem to install I would've given this very nice wall lamp a 5-star rating across the board except the lamp shade is a bit bigger than I thought. However, it's well made and looks very nice. There's no problem to install since it plugs into a wall outlet. You might want to note that it is not a "touch" lamp to turn on the light; it's a standard turn knob.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed Although the lamp was not difficult to install, is low in cost and lights the room, I was disappointed. First, there were three very large warning stickers applied to visible areas of the lamp. One covers the entire light fixture base (that holds the bulb) and another covers a large portion of the swinging arm (the other arm attached to the base does not move). You will need a plastic razor blade, some goo remover and 30 minutes of elbow grease to remove these stickers...and some of the glue will still be attached to right where you will want to grasp the swing arm to adjust the lamp. So aggravating! Secondly, despite leveling carefully, the swing arm is not sturdily attached to the rigid arm so the lamp sags (it does not sit parallel to the ground). The cord is only long enough if your outlet is very near to the lamp. I had to use a power strip. And if you decide to use a bulb that is not a three-way bulb (I chose a 75 watt fluorescent) - the switch will click twice with the light off, and then the next two clicks, the light will be on (very strange). I do like the pleated shade as they seem to keep their nice appearance longer than a plain shade.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality After unpacking and attempting to assemble I discovered the threads on the top cord cover did not match the Canopy insert, so it never tightened. Also the cord was too fat to fit in the cord cover. HD needs to do some quality control on products from Hampton Bay before placing on store shelves.
