Questions & Answers

So the electrical cord sits in the WATER of the bottom basin on the way to the electrical outlet?

That's how it appears in one of the photos posted on this website. I've never seen this unusual feature on a fountain.
Asked by: BimboKay
The pump and cord are UL approved for safe operation. Since this fountain is going to be outside, the manufacturer has designed to be around all wet conditions, whether in rain or splashing water there is no risk of electric shock. Most homes after the 1980's are engineered for all "wet" areas to be protected with GFI outlets. Where I live, it's state law and works very well. Never use a non-grounded power cable in these areas. The "grounded" part is what will save your life if there ever is a breach in the power distribution. I have grounded- outdoor designed extension cords in use (usually green in color) all year round with zero problems.

I broke the finial (top with tube) last year, where can I get just a new finial?

Asked by: Ginny
I tried last year to get this replaced and finally gave up after about 3 months. but I think I finally got all the information needed to get this ordered. Call the 1800 support number, you will need the sku, model number and the replacement part list. It is located at the HD web site under specifications on this model... At that time they told me it was about $15 and shipping.

Why did mine break?

Mine shattered and we haven't even had it a year. My husband got it for me for Mother's Day last year.
Asked by: Jaime
If you leave it out in the snow/ ice even if it's covered, it's bound to break. I drained mine and put it underneath my deck. I've had it for 4 years. Only issue I have is that it stains incredibly easy & fast. In a but she'll, It's a high maintenance fountain

What kind of sealer should I use on this fountain?

I have read a lot of reviews about the fountain crumbling and leaking so I would like to seal the fountain, but not sure what is the appropriate product to use. For those that have sealed the fountain with success, what did you use?
Asked by: Linds
we tried a concrete sealer and it still didn't help ours crumbled the next summer after being stored in our garage over the winter. I wouldn't waste my money on this fountain I would invest in a good concrete fountain.

Customer Reviews

2-Tier Cement Fountain is rated 2.4 out of 5 by 108.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Crumbles VERY disappointed. Bought for elderly parents. They took great care to drain and wrap in plastic during winter. Totally dry but full of crack with chunks falling off. Heavy to hall to basement. If basement or garage isn't heated, will severely crack and not hold water. When you reassemble, pieces chunk away. Waste of money. This could be made to withstand. Many exterior fountains found outside 365 do. This $169 to $254 investment is only good for 1 summer. They should have LARGE FONT on box ABSOLUTELY MUST BE STORED IN HEATED DRY AREA IN WINTER OR WILL IMMEDIATELY CRUMBLE APART. Manufacturer should be embarrassed. No pride in this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I bought this 2 tier fountain last year it started. it began to crumble within a couple of months... I bought this 2 tier fountain last year it started. it began to crumble within a couple of months then we covered it as it got colder and cleaned it out as a directed in instruction manual. However, when pulled out for this season it basically crumbled like a cookie, making it completely useless. Then trying to find support to try and resolve the issue was impossible. This product should not be sold any longer and certainly a large company like Hampton bay/Home Depot should have much better customer service. Very disappointed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this fountain This is the easiest fountain to assemble we have ever bought. It is quite heavy, but that will keep the cats from knocking it over when they get a drink. Cleaning it will be a breeze since the pump is directly behind a little access panel in the lower bowl. On most fountains some teardown is required. The pump WILL get clogged in normal use and they thought of that in the design. The instructions were a little confusing because they kept saying to lock the sections together. They do not lock, but are keyed to fit together only one way. I am not familiar with the material it is made from, but it appears to be durable. After a couple of years in the GA sun, we'll see. Really pleased so far.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Problems I've had problems with this fountain since purchase. About two months after I purchased it it started to leak. Applied some sealer and problem solved. In the spring the cement that the fountain was made from started to crumble. I'm now going to have to get a new fountain but it certainly won't be like this one. Very disappointed in the fountain. I hope you have better luck if you purchase this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fountain for the price, but you can't leave it out for the Winter. I have read so many negative reviews of this fountain crumbling and falling apart after a year or so. I noticed that most people with this issue left the fountain outside for the winter. The instructions clearly say that the fountain must be moved indoors during the winter. Draining it and covering it, but still leaving it outside, isn't going to stop the effects of freezing weather on something that was not built to withstand the freezing/unfreezing cycle of winter. This being said, and after reading so many people with issues with this fountain leaking and falling apart, I purchased a clear cement sealer and sealed the fountain. I will also be moving the fountain into the basement before the cold weather sets in. If this were an all cement fountain it would cost hundreds of dollars more. I will report back next year with the condition of my fountain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Fountain, Birds Love It This is the second of two fountains that I bought at Home Depot for my balcony. I almost didn't buy it, wondering how I was going to drag up it the stairs by myself. One of the smart Home Depot workers suggested I take it out of the box downstairs and bring it upstairs one piece at a time. That made the sale! This is a lovely fountain and it works perfectly. It was not difficult to assemble. I did have to wrestle a bit with the second tier, and the little "pineapple" shaped fixture on top, to get them level. That makes a difference with regard to how evenly the water falls. Also note: it takes up a bit of the length of the cord to go up inside the fountain to the wide bowl, where the pump sits, so if there is any distance at all between the base of the fountain and the place you're going to plug it in, you may need an extension cord. It gives off a pretty splashing sound (it does splash a bit outside the bowl from the first and second tiers). The birds love it....I even saw a finch take a serious bath in the shallower top tier! I've spent hours on the internet looking at fountains....they are very expensive. So glad I found this one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beware This fountain looks great, however it may only last one season. As the top layer of paint ages it becomes porous and water enters, works it way through over time and leaks out. If it freezes you will see it crumble as another poster had happen. Whether it freezes or not it will still deteriorate and leak quickly. My fountain although stored all winter lasted 6 months and is now garbage.
