Questions & Answers

If I attach a six foot high fencing to a second-story 3 foot deck railing, will the remaining 3 feet witstand the wind?

Asked by: Cheric
My own experience with a full 72 inch railing. Maybe if I use 2x4 it would hold it in place. Highly unlikely to withstand winds without proper framing. then also the connections to the frame come apart.

I see there is a height listed but how long is each roll?
Asked by: Bumbles
the wrapping and price label says it's 16ft long, but that is not true. You pay for 16ft but only get 14.6 ft of bamboo reed fencing, Home Depot mislead the consumer to believing they are paying for 16ft of bamboo reed fencing.

Can you attach this to a porch railing?

I live on a 2nd floor of a multi family and I have zero privacy on my back deck. Trying to see what works.
Asked by: Mike
I would think so, just secure it really well because of the winds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice! This reed fencing is fragile by nature. Be careful with it, transporting and installing. The reeds are held together by black, thin wires. The reeds can be stretched out for the fencing to be a sparcer coverage or you can hardly stretch it out for more coverage. I choose the more coverage route. I gently unrolled it and placed it on the ground. I needed to cut it shorter, as it was too tall for my ugly 5' wood fence I needed to cover. I used my regular small stem, rose cutters to cut the reeds to size. I put a 2x4 down underneath where the fencing was going just to give a little height off the wet ground (for mold and decay prevention). I used my staple gun to attach the wires to my wood fence. Very simple and did it by myself. As you're stapling, stand back and make sure your reeds are fairly straight up and down. Easy peasy. It's amazing what a tropical transformation we've had! Beautiful coverage of not stretched out. No need to double it or anything. Good luck and pick each roll out at the store by hand. I choose rolls in the back of the stack so they weren't touched too much.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks nice but NOT bamboo We used this for privacy on a chainlink fence. It works well for that, looks nice and was easy to install. However this product is advertised as bamboo but it is actually reed (long, thick grass). We don’t expect it to last more that 2 years. We used hog wire rings to attach it but in retrospect bailing wire would have worked OK, but will rust and stain the reeds. TIP: the wire at the ends are folded back. It you twist that together with the next panel it will be seemless.

It worked great! I simply used zip ties to attach it to the existing fence and raised it up a little over a foot. One because I needed the extra height and two because I didn't want it sitting on the ground to rot. I had a cat that kept jumping the fence somehow and now she's mad at me because she can no longer figure out how to escape! lol It adds some privacy if pulled completely taught but if you don't stretch it out then it truly adds privacy, only thing with not stretching it is you get less footage. It is fairly fragile by nature so do be careful when handling and hanging, but it does add a very nice accent to any space! I'm now thinking of spraying on a protective something or other to hopefully get some true longevity out of it, because it is beautiful!

In the late fall I roll them up and put them in my shed so the winter weather doesn’t hurt them. Gives the yard a tropical look. You can see through them a little but not enough to take away from the privacy feel.

They were extremely easy to work with and looked fantastic. We're purchasing more for next year. I'm also considering getting a few for our backyard and attaching them to the chainlink fence.

In reality there is quite a bit of space between those vertical reeds, and even with two layers it really doesn’t offer much privacy—especially when stretched to the full 16 feet.

Each piece was only 15'2'' not the 16 ft as advertised. So of course I had to run back to store to purchase another length. Other than that it took about 2 hours to hang 6 lengths and was easy to work with
