Questions & Answers

how loud is the fan?

Asked by: ant
I cannot tell you the decibel (dB) of this fan. My subjective experience is that this fan is quiet.

1) Should the fan be connected to a separate switch than the light bulb? Should that switch always be in on position? Will the humidistat kick on even when that switch is in an off position? 2) Will the blue light come when switch is in on position even when the humidity is lower than 60 percent? 3) Is the blue light supposed to turn off by itself when the humidity drops below 60 percent or do you have to manually turn it off?
Asked by: LoyalCustomer
1- yes you should connect the fan to a separate switch if you plan to use the automated features. Each time that you toggle the power switch you are changing modes from automatic (in which the fan is operating at partial power) to manual (which pushes the fan into full power). 2- the blue light stays on as an indicator that the fan is in auto mode regardless of humidity level.

Junction box required?

The install instructions state to run wire into the vent using a junction box that is not included. Does it not have a wiring box and cover within the metal housing? All the other fans I am looking at do.
Asked by: Riley
The J box is built in, you will need a electrical clamp to secure the romex.

Installation is straightforward for any DIYer. Minimum tool requirements to *install* the fan are slotted and phillips screwdrivers, a hammer, and duct tape. An impact driver with a 6" phillips bit and foil HVAC tape will make the job easier. Your guess is as good as mine for what it will take to get your old fan out! Be sure to measure your ceiling opening first so you know if you'll have to enlarge it! I was able to do the installs entirely from the ceiling side and did not need to climb into the attic. I also used screws to attach the fan to the joist instead of the recommended nails. The push-in wire connectors were a nice touch! The fans are definitely quieter than the 4 sonne Broans they replaced, but I can definitely still hear them running. Operation works like this: turn it on, and it's in humidity-sensing mode. Leave it there and it will run when it needs to and turn off automatically. This feature works perfectly, turning on about 2 minutes into a shower and turning off about 10 minutes after. Switch it off and it's off. Switch it on again and it is in continuous run mode. Switch off and on again to get back to sensing mode. When it's in sensing mode, there's a little blue LED that stays on to let you know. Continuous mode has a yellow LED. The LEDs cast just enough light to get around the bathroom at night, which is a bonus!

Bought 4 thinking this would be the answer to kids forgetting to turn on fans. Installed one unit, never shut off in the blue light mode. Just switched from low to high speed. This is not how I understood the product worked, so I call the 800 number and was transferred to the manufacturer, homeworks LLC. They sent me a new humidity sensor. No difference, still would never turn off. Tried a different fan. Never would completely turn off. Called back to homeworks and the customer service rep just told me the fan never completely turns off -just goes from high to low speed. Need to use the switch to completely turn off. What? Am in the only one that doesn't get this from the description, or other reviews for that matter?

It has two modes: The first mode is a blue LED light humidity sensor that turns on when there is any humidity in the bathroom (showering/wet towels, etc.) this setting can be left activated by leaving the wall switch in the ON position. The fan is very quiet to begin with, but it is even quieter in the humidity sensor setting. The second mode is a yellow LED that is manually turned on and off by the wall switch. This setting is a bit louder and sounds like more fan speed being used. Either way, it's a great little fan, highly recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from What they don't tell you in the manual Some useful information they do not mention anywhere is that there must be some humidity in the air for the fan to operate at all in "humidity sensing" or Blue, mode. if it is very dry, for instance in the winter when the air is cold and crisp, the fan won't work at all in blue mode. The light comes on but the fan does not spin. It still operates normally in "full speed" or orange mode. The manual says that when in blue mode, the fan will turn on when it senses more than 60% humidity. What it doesn't say is that when there is somewhere between 20-60%humidity the fan operates at half speed, then switches to full speed once the room gets steamy.

However something odd is that when I get out of the shower sometimes there Are drips of water that have accumulated on the grate of the vent... Wouldn't have noticed but I have been dripped on a couple times. They eventually go awy
