Can fan be used with a timer switch?
Asked by: Jon
Hi Jon, Do not use this fan with any solid state control device, such as a remote control, dimmer switch, or certain timers. Mechanical timers are not considered solid state devices.

Mine doesn’t turn off

I just installed it and it turned on when taking a shower last night and this morning it was still on, it was in humidity sensing mode, the blue like we’re showing. I live in Florida so I don’t know if it’s going to be on all the time or what....
Asked by: Jroon
In can take a significant amount of time to shut off after a shower. In a very high humidity climate, such as the south that time is extended simply as the humidity even when running AC can be much closer to the 60% level that triggers the fan. I sometimes use the wall switch to turn it off after a period of time

1) Should the fan be connected to a separate switch than the light bulb? Should that switch always be in on position? Will the humidistat kick on even when that switch is in an off position? 2) Will the blue light come when switch is in on position even when the humidity is lower than 60 percent? 3) Is the blue light supposed to turn off by itself when the humidity drops below 60 percent or do you have to manually turn it off?
Asked by: LoyalCustomer
1- yes you should connect the fan to a separate switch if you plan to use the automated features. Each time that you toggle the power switch you are changing modes from automatic (in which the fan is operating at partial power) to manual (which pushes the fan into full power). 2- the blue light stays on as an indicator that the fan is in auto mode regardless of humidity level.

Customer Reviews

80 CFM No Cut Ceiling Humidity Sensing Bath Fan is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 93.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lifetime warranty? Better hope you don’t accidentally damage it! Customer service is a total joke. Bought 5 of these fans for my new construction house. Drywall guys made a mistake during install and I needed to replace the inner fan unit that is clearly meant to be serviceable. I did what any reasonable person would do- called customer service at Hampton Bay, explained the situation, and asked if I could pay for 5 fan replacements (at my expense!) so that I could retain the boxes without having to install 500$+ in new vent fans. Only to be told “we cannot sell you any parts, those parts are only for warranty work, you’re better off just buying more fans”. What kind of garbage service is that? I had to continue pressing to at least get an item number thinking I could just do a simple google search and find what I needed there. But bc this is a Home Depot specific brand they have locked down any authentic parts from being sold. NuTone sells replacement fan units off the shelf at Home Depot, but Hampton Bay / hone Depot won’t sell replacement parts of their own product? Never buying another Hampton Bay product again. Period.

I'm converting a 60 sq.ft. walk-in pantry to a butler's pantry with countertops in order for food prep such as crock pots, etc. Took awhile to get venting through exterior wall, chop a ceiling joist, run new power...but all too easy for me as a General Contractor...done this before. Install: Fan went right in per size specs. Wired easy. Vent coupling slid right in and locked. Price: Pretty good considering I usually have Panasonics installed at $200 + by my HVAC. Noise: Amazingly quiet for the amount of air it exhausts. Way quieter than some of the NuTones I have used. Operation: When in HUMIDITY mode (blue led), fan stays off unless it senses a certain amount of humidity (duh). To test, I microwaved a bowl of boiling water then held up bowl about a foot below fan. In about 15 seconds, the fan sensed the steam and it turned on to a 'whisper quiet'. Could not really tell it was on but it was. So I suppose that with humidity in room, expect low power, low CFM. When in manual mode (amber led), by turning the switch on, off, on again, the fan goes high speed, high CFM. Still pretty quiet but you can tell it is on. Doing the smoke test (twist a paper towel into a wand, light one inch of end on fire, blow out flame, produces a stream of smoke), I moved smoke wand around room at different points and found the fan to do an exceptional job of pulling smoke toward fan and did not spread smoke about. Bad quality fans can vortex meaning that they can spread more exhaust about than can get through the ducting. That comes from bad design. I assure you this Hampton Bay fan exhibited none of that! The fan sucked everything right to the outside. Great design. Great fan.

I functioned according to the description and was easy to install. It clears out any fog in our bathroom in no time. We leave it on automatic all the time and as a bonus have the blue light working as the night light in our bath room.
