Questions & Answers

I absolutely love the look of this fan but the noise it makes is very frustrating.

It makes a loud buzzing noise at high speed and has a bit of a wiggle in it. On medium it goes faster than on high.

Does the remote allow you to reverse the fan or does it have to be done on the actual fan itself?

Asked by: mcrismon
This is counter-intuitive, and double-check my info by downloading the fan manual. To reverse the fan with *original* remote, there's a little "swirl" button. And (this is where it sounds dicey!) one does this *while the fan is running*.... I've tried it, according to the manual, and the fan slows and reverses as we're told it will. Hope that helps.

Fan only runs on one speed.....what is problem?
Asked by: florida
The manufacturer has a tremendous customer support, they will be glad to walk you thru some steps to find the issue. If defective you will get the part on the mail. It could be the setup between the remote and the receiver or the receiver is malfunctioning Tony PHN

Can this fan be used on 8 foot ceilings? Or will it be to low?

Asked by: Jaynie
It will be very low if you use the longer down rod. For 8 ft ceilings, use the shorter rod in the box, but, it looks like if you do the decorative wires might not be able to be used.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Modern sleek with a fully functional remote The fan comes with a small and large downrod. More than likely you will be using the smaller downrod on a typical ceiling height (11 ft or less). The decorative chain links can NOT be attached if you use the smaller downrod. The chain links are too long. Which is the only negative about this ceiling fan. The Fan comes with a remote, (The light is not dimmable); CFL bulbs are energy saving but not dimmable. LED bulbs are energy saving and dimmable... So I subtract a bar for value there. As the techonolgy is there to make dimmable LED light bulbs and it was not used in this model. But it is a very attractive celing fan, easy installation. Remote has the rare ability to push air up or down (reverse blade direction) with the touch of a button. The ceiling fan does not intefere or interact with my 6.0dect phone, my wireless internet, garage door opener, and other radio frequency devices (a problem they have finally solved!) For that reason, I give it 5 stars. The fan takes two bulbs and comes with 2 cfl bulbs in the box, which adds to the value. I would recemmend this ceiling fan to a friend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Keep on walking, nothing to see here Alright, me and my wife really liked the look of the brookdale so we got two, one for the game room and one for the living room. About 6 months after installation, the fan in the game room started having problems not turning very fast so I pulled it down and exchanged it. 6 months later the one in the living room started doing the same thing, then about a month later the new fan did as well. The issue is medium speed spins faster than fast but medium is still slower than fast when the fan was new. Oddly enough sometimes it does seem to get up to full speed but then slows down again for unknown reasons. Honestly I think it's model of the fan but I plan on replacing both with Hunter fans this spring.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This ceiling fan is a replacement for same stye fan.... This ceiling fan is a replacement for same stye fan. When we purchased our home we loved the fan and proceeded to set up our new home. we did notice that the fan only operated on one speed slow very slow but other things were higher on our list to make it our home from the previous owners. So we put it on the back burner until other items were addressed. Now was the time so I read the reports from other owners of this same fan and found I was not the only one experiencing this same problem but since it's purchase it had been 13 years so I feel they should address this problem. Time will tell but so it is performing as expected. So we will see as time passes and it is beautiful and works well with the room. Wish me luck as I hope it continues to work well !!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good fan, but does not work in "high speed" We bought this fan 6 years ago. The fan is nice and looks good, but it really has never worked properly. The fan runs on low and medium speeds, but has NEVER run on high speed. We tried to fix it, but did not have any luck. So, we settled for medium speed. This fan has not been sold at Home Depot since we bought it long ago, But today I noticed it is being sold again. From reading the other review, I see that they still have not fixed the "high speed" problem.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Fan (for the ones that worked) I purchased four of these fans. Three of them work great, and really minimize the need for AC. However, one of them has the same problem that the other reviewers had. It never gets to a "high" fan setting. I installed in during the winter months, and did not immediately notice the issue until summer rolled around. Otherwise, it is a great looking fan, which nearly everyone compliments. Without the one faulty fan, I would give it 5 stars.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor quality The fan stopped working only a few months after I purchased it. It looks really good and the lights and remote work fine but it does not turn. I have to spin it by hand and then it works but it cannot start by itself. I would never buy the same brand fan.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Would NOT recommed I have had this fan for 6 years. The remote receiver is located in the fan itself. After I replaced the receiver for the 2nd time I was told by mfg to turn off power to unit when not in use as receiver was overheating I did this and when I checked it after it ran for about an hour the fan motor was hot, cooking the receiver again. Customer service at Home Depot has been great, but poor design. I am a contractor and never have had more problems with this fan than any other, and it is in my own home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful fan with all the bells and whistles I first bought this fan about 4.5 years ago in SC to install in our new house there. We loved it! Lived there for 2 years then moved and built another house. I looked for about 4 months for this fan without luck...only finding the Brookdale II which is not nearly as beautiful as the original. Then in a search I found it again...they must have recently added it. I wouldn't have wanted another if I didn't love it!! We have regular height ceilings and only use the short downrod with it, as you can't flush mount it and don't use those cables. It is beautiful. We have it in our family room with no other lights and it is enough to light the room. It is dimmable, but we have cfl's in it, which are NOT dimmable....just haven't reaplaced those yet (I really love the dimmable feature) We mount the remote holder to the wall next to the light switches so it never gets lost and it stays put all the time. It is a big fan (width wise) so would be best in big rooms...family, large master...not small office or kids rooms I would suggest. Fan speed is very adequate....high is truly high and gets the air flowing to my husbands hard to please standard. So happy I found this again. And I was willing to pay whatever the cost....look at the cost of comparable sized fans....this is a great price!! Thanks Home Depot!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Consistent Problems Purchased the Brookedale Fan about two and a half years ago. The fan is aesthetically beautiful and definitely a conversation piece in any home. About 18 months in-the motor/remote control unit on the fan would not work. In fairness, Home Depot did replace this ceiling fan with the Brookedale II(see my response on that) after several e-mails of why a $200+ ceiling fan should work beyond a year and a half. I have had $30 ceiling fans run 20 to 30 years without a problem. The problem with this fan is that it's 100 percent remote controlled. If the remote unit goes-then you have to purchase another. Which I suspect, has a history of problems. Summation-great conversation piece/great fan-when it works. I wouldn't doubt that Home Depot is aware of issues with the remote unit but after a year-it's your headache to deal with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Big Fan! We needed a big fan for a large room. This fan fit perfectly. We also wanted something a little different and with the accent of the cable lines going up the pole that added the extra detail we wanted. We opted for a 24 inch pole and changing to that from the short one that came with it was straight forward. Fan is very quiet.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing performance I have owned this fan for years and just found out that it was supposed to work better than it does. It has been very slow since we purchased it. I thought it was just the way it was supposed to be. I found out that it has a faulty speed control. All this time I thought it was a very nice looking piece of JUNK! Wait I guess it still is! came broken that not a good sign.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I like the older version better Bought these fans because of how much I loved the previous version. The fan now comes with 2 CFC energy efficient bulbs, and light doesn't have dimmable settings like the previous version, and there's no way to convert it with a wall dimmer since the fan and light are wired together. It's really nice having the dimmer setting for mood lighting. I understand the energy savings nonsense, but if you're spending $200+ on a fan, do you really care about energy savings that much? Otherwise, everything about this fan is great, the build quality is top notch and the amount of breeze it provides is far superior. I find myself putting it on low because I get too cold with the higher settings.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent look, this is my second fan though, first fan stopped working on speeds other than low Love the way this product looks Performance is average as this is my second fan to replace the same model that stopped functioning properly

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Trying another one Only giving this fan a 2 star for now... This fan looks great in our family room. Worked fine and very quiet for a couple of days but then it started a clicking noise, same noise for all speeds. I called the Hampton Bay customer service to see if they had an easy fix. They were very friendly and helpful - thought it may be the receiver so they shipped a new one. Well, it wasn't the receiver, I am returning this fan and ordering another one. I am hoping the next one is fine because 60", good looking, and quiet fans at a great price are hard to find! I'll update on how the next one works out.

There was a problem. When the light was turned off using the remote. The light would flicker very faintly. It was so faint that the room had to almost totally dark or you couldn't see the flicker. I call the help number and was told that the problem had to be the bulb or the "light panel". Both of those were sent to me. When I took the shade off you could tell that one of the two bulbs were flickering. I replaced that bulb with the one sent to me at which time both bulbs flickered. I checked with electrician who had put the fan up for us and he said it was the bulbs. He advised me to get LED bulbs. I did and that solved the problem. No more flickering.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Only ran one speed...that is before it got worse. This fan is a glorified light. About a year after purchasing, the fan no longer had a high speed. We were ok with that because the fan looks so nice and fit in our living room so well. Six months after that I had the fan on and noticed a weird smell of burning plastic filling the house. I finally pinpointed it to the fan. Tried it once again...same thing. Now we don't turn the fan on at all, we just use it for light- of which one fixture does not work! BUYER BEWARE! unless you want to spend your money on a partially functioning ceiling light. Oh, I wrote to Hampton Bay and got no response at all.
