Does this need the battery to operate if it is wired in? I'm reading conflicting answers. It seems silly that there wouldn't be a transformer for using house power, and needing to use the battery.
Asked by: Sean
Thanks, yet again half say yes, half say no. Also, no, a transformer would not be a problem. That's why there are 20amp USB combo outlets, and WiFi switches, that can all fit in a single gang box. I'll just buy it and try it.

Fan is no longer working but light is working fine. Been outdoors for 10 years. Controlled from this ceiling fan wall control. Red LEDs light up on controller when you press fan speed controls but nothing happens. Looks hard wired. Two black leads in back and ground are connected on wall control. Is there any battery I should check on the controller in the wall or on the fan or do I just need a new fan? .

It's right on the wall so you don't have to look for the remote control. Really like the like dimmer feature so we can turn the intensity of the light to our personal preference.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Met the need Previous switch failed. Even though new switch was different brand, matched frequency settings to previously installed transmitter in fan and it worked Would be nice if you could just buy switch separately- save some money!

Controller was fine but since there is nowhere else to complain about HD's online service (local store basically said they couldn't help because it was an online problem, not theirs), I'll do it here. Paid extra for 2 day shipping because I needed the unit to please my customer. Received the unit 3 days later. My customer wasn't happy and "Home Depot screwed up" wasn't acceptable to them. Try calling HD's customer service number to get a problem resolved, go ahead, I dare ya. It'll never happen. I'm out 6 bucks (30% of the product's cost) and, more importantly, I lost my customer. Thanks for nothing HD!

Because once I received it, I could see it was meant to be hard-wired. The one I would be replacing, also fits into the wall, however it is not hard-wired. It sends a signal to the fan via RF. Now, that doesn't mean this new one won't work with my 15 year old fan, however, I wasn't able to connect with anyone at Home Depot who could offer any tech support so I just returned it. You guys sell Hampton Bay fans/lights. You'd think you'd have someone on staff who has knowledge of them and the switches.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Remote receiver is huge I tried for 2 hours to get this receiver to fit inside the upper housing for my ceiling fan (I'm sure there's a proper name for that but I don't know it). Nothing worked and no matter what angle I tried orwhat I did I could not get this tucked in so I could screw the housing back on. I would gladly pay double for the exact same product with a smaller receiver. Aside from that theproduct works great to separate the controls of a ceiling fan that is being run off a single wire/ switch. I just wish I could screw the dang back on.

I bought this to replace the identical wall switch for my Hampton Bay existing ceiling fan which had failed. After installation we discovered that the sensor in the ceiling fan also needs to be changed out. While provided in the packaging, it is no easy task to remove the ceiling fan itself to do this!!! Why would Hampton Bay not provide a product that can communicate with its existing ceiling fans? Now we need to find and pay a handyman/electrician to install the rest of the product. Thanks a lot Hampton Bay.
