Questions & Answers

Can I use it on a wooden deck

Asked by: EB
Although you could put this on fire resistive tiles or pavers, I would surely be concerned that sparks, embers, radiant heat of convective heat could, and would start a fire. Too close to a railing or your home... to near a roof eve or awning, or UNDER anything and "POOF" you will be calling 911 and filing an insurance claim. As a firefighter, we respond several times a year to addresses because of these issues. Away from combustible materials...10-12 feet. Always monitor when lit or hot. Check with your local Fire Dept for any restrictions regarding open burning. Some restrict leaves or paper, others restrict burning due to air quality, others require a permit if there is a burn ban enforced or if it it a "red flag warning" day or a windy day. If the least bit in doubt...Don't burn!

How hard is this to assemble? Im buying this for a gift should i download the pdf document?

Asked by: Chuckles
THE HARD PART IS PUTTING THE OUTER RING ON. THE HOLES ON MINE WERE TRICKY TO LINE UP. THEY COULD HAVE PUNCHED IN SLIGHTLY ELONGATED SLOTS IN THE SIDE INSTEAD OF DRILLED HOLES TO FIX THE PROBLEM. ANYWAY LINE THE RING UP AS CLOSE AS YOU CAN AND TRY TO HAND TIGHTEN A FEW THREADS FIRST. YOU COULD EASILY CROSS THREAD IT IF YOU START OFF WITH A SCREWDRIVER DUE TO THE LOUSY FIT. PUT IN ALL THE SCREWS FIRST ALL THE WAY AROUND AND THEN GRADUALLY TIGHTEN THEM ALL.

Does the sides have wire mesh too: Also, will it allow you to burn papers in it?

Asked by: Sally
Yes it does. It would burn papers just fine.

Crossfire 29.50 in. Steel Fire Pit with Cooking Grate is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 1662.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this Fire Pit! This worked out great for our Christmas present from our son, who lives in the state of Washington. He found it online, paid for it, then I just went to the store and picked it up. I wrapped it for my husband to open on Christmas morning. Boy, was he surprised! I did a lot of searching before deciding on this one. I really like the cooking grate feature and the design of the sides allows you to see the fire from that angle also. Excellent value for under $100! I just wish it said on the box or the associates at Home Depot told me I needed some sand to put in the bottom of the fire pit. I had to make another trip to get that. Minor detail. Love it!

First you can't put the lid on the fire pit when the grill is attached because the pole holding the grill on is too long. Second the poker is very short compared to the one that was shown in the store. I also wasn't able to put the wingnut in to attach the pole down towards the base but it is still functionable. The pros to this is that it was easy to assemble and lightweight and the grill top attachment swings out so if the flames are coming up too high or you want to add more wood you can easily just move it out of the way. I've only had it for a week so we will see how it holds up.

The product was well-made, easy to assemble, and sturdy, unlike the first fire pit I purchased (and at a much higher price!) The bottom grate (NOT the cooking grate) did rust after being out in the rain, but that's no big deal, it will be cheap to replace or easy to clean and repaint. I would suggest a couple drain holes in the bottom before the final painting/powder coating, which would allow any accumulated water to drain. Also, remember to buy a bag of cheap sand and put a couple inches in the bottom to protect the finish and deter rust. The metal is fairly thick, I plan to clean and repaint as needed for several years to come. I love this fire pit!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product I bought this being somewhat leery about reading about other fire pits. This one was the exception. I love the ease of putting together, very good construction, and the amount of wood you can burn in this thing far exceeds anything any other pit offers. I can burn for hours in this thing and enjoy my evenings with family/friends. As a bonus, it came with a grill option. That made my day. Flame broiled burgers and kabobs, here I come. I expect to have many fine years of use and enjoyment from this fire pit. One thing though: you need to get lava rocks or sand to place on the bottom to get the maximum heat effect. Enjoy!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fire pit for a small yard Perfect size for a small area. I like the dome cover which keeps embers from drifting off. Very easy to put together, less than 20 minutes to complete. Sturdy legs and barrel. I took previous owners advice and drilled several holes in the bottom of the pit for drainage. Also easy enough to do. The unit did come with a rack for grilling but I choose not use it as I wanted it strictly for a fire pit. I was able to use several traditional size logs for burning and the pit was more than ample for the task. It is also easy to move as there is a ring around the pit for easy handling. All and all this is a terrific pit and I would recommend it to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful and easy to use This is a gorgeous firepit, and I love that it's so lightweight - easy to take with us anywhere. I also am in love with the grill feature. Even though we mostly will use this at home where we already have a gas grill, I can foresee our kids borrowing this for camping trips, and it will definitely get transported to the lake. The assembly appeared to be a little bit difficult, but that might be because I had two teenagers setting it up...and I wonder why the manufacturer doesn't drill hole(s) in the bottom. It so obviously needs them. I also bought the recommended grill cover and for the money, I have a great little set up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good compromise fir pit This fire pit tries to do a bit of everything. It is a larger pit that has a cooking grate. The large size means that you should use two people to move the pit. The cooking grate interfers with the mesh top screen and doesn't adjust close enough to the fire. But If you are looking for a larger fire pit that you can do some minor cooking on this does the job. I wasn't able to find any other fire pit for a reasonable price that does the same combination of jobs. If you are looking for an economical fire pit that can also be used for some light cooking, this seems one of the better ones.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Is working out well for our application i own a campground in Arizona, ground fires are a safety concern so we use fire pits to keep this under control. I've spent more on comparable units and have got 5 years of heavy usage out of other pits. I bought two of these to replace retired units and to save a little money. I was not disappointed. Definitly a value, but you have to remember to put an inch and a half of sand in the bottom to keep the fire from eating through and don't ever pour a coca cola on the ashes or you will put holes in the bottom. The only bad comment one customer had was that using the grill, it was not level while cooking hot dogs and they wanted to roll. Remedy, level it a little better befor you light the logs or lay the hot dogs with the grill pattern.
