Questions & Answers

Can I use it on a wooden deck

Asked by: EB
Although you could put this on fire resistive tiles or pavers, I would surely be concerned that sparks, embers, radiant heat of convective heat could, and would start a fire. Too close to a railing or your home... to near a roof eve or awning, or UNDER anything and "POOF" you will be calling 911 and filing an insurance claim. As a firefighter, we respond several times a year to addresses because of these issues. Away from combustible materials...10-12 feet. Always monitor when lit or hot. Check with your local Fire Dept for any restrictions regarding open burning. Some restrict leaves or paper, others restrict burning due to air quality, others require a permit if there is a burn ban enforced or if it it a "red flag warning" day or a windy day. If the least bit in doubt...Don't burn!

How hard is this to assemble? Im buying this for a gift should i download the pdf document?

Asked by: Chuckles
THE HARD PART IS PUTTING THE OUTER RING ON. THE HOLES ON MINE WERE TRICKY TO LINE UP. THEY COULD HAVE PUNCHED IN SLIGHTLY ELONGATED SLOTS IN THE SIDE INSTEAD OF DRILLED HOLES TO FIX THE PROBLEM. ANYWAY LINE THE RING UP AS CLOSE AS YOU CAN AND TRY TO HAND TIGHTEN A FEW THREADS FIRST. YOU COULD EASILY CROSS THREAD IT IF YOU START OFF WITH A SCREWDRIVER DUE TO THE LOUSY FIT. PUT IN ALL THE SCREWS FIRST ALL THE WAY AROUND AND THEN GRADUALLY TIGHTEN THEM ALL.

Does the sides have wire mesh too: Also, will it allow you to burn papers in it?

Asked by: Sally
Yes it does. It would burn papers just fine.

The product was well-made, easy to assemble, and sturdy, unlike the first fire pit I purchased (and at a much higher price!) The bottom grate (NOT the cooking grate) did rust after being out in the rain, but that's no big deal, it will be cheap to replace or easy to clean and repaint. I would suggest a couple drain holes in the bottom before the final painting/powder coating, which would allow any accumulated water to drain. Also, remember to buy a bag of cheap sand and put a couple inches in the bottom to protect the finish and deter rust. The metal is fairly thick, I plan to clean and repaint as needed for several years to come. I love this fire pit!

First you can't put the lid on the fire pit when the grill is attached because the pole holding the grill on is too long. Second the poker is very short compared to the one that was shown in the store. I also wasn't able to put the wingnut in to attach the pole down towards the base but it is still functionable. The pros to this is that it was easy to assemble and lightweight and the grill top attachment swings out so if the flames are coming up too high or you want to add more wood you can easily just move it out of the way. I've only had it for a week so we will see how it holds up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great fire pit Came into the store seeking a chimnea, but this little beauty caught my eye. I especially liked the grilling grate function. Solid month in and have zero complaints. Sure, the bottom grate warped a bit, but that's expected with the intense heat of the embers. The mesh lid also has suffered some heat side-effects, but it's just superficial paint flaking due to metal expansion. Again, not an issue in my opinion. Pay more if you want to, but this little fire pit works like a charm for me.

I took the advice of others and sprayed the fire pit with high temp paint, and used about 25 lbs of play sand in the bottom. The one fire I've had so far burned easily and put out a lot of heat, all without a lot of smoke. I have not used the grilling feature nor did I mount it.

It was easy to assemble and seems well made. Our only complaint is the bottom firewood grate became bent after the first week of use. I can't say if it is a design flaw or our teenage children loaded too much wood on it the night we weren't there

We've only used it a few times so far, but it certainly appears to be well-made, it goes together easily, and the swing-out cooking grate is a nice touch. The 30" width is similar to others I've owned, but the much greater depth, and open (but screened) sides for viewing, sets this one apart. Includes a raised bottom grate to rest the wood upon, but you'll want your fill sand to be deep enough to almost reach it, so the hot coals that have fallen through remain close enough to the unburnt wood to do some good. Very pleased with my choice; it's the next best thing to just circling some rocks out in the wild. I'd recommend this one indeed. The purchase at Home Depot (delivered to my local store for pickup) was simple and smooth.

Awesome purchase. I did buy a cover since it sits out in the rain all winter. A couple notes - add the sand like they say in the manual. - a few of the negative reviews show the grate ruined. Pretty sure these people were trying to use it like the bottom charcoal grate in a grill. This is not the intended purpose - it's supposed to sit on a pole over the fire so you can cook food. Works really well for this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this Fire Pit! This worked out great for our Christmas present from our son, who lives in the state of Washington. He found it online, paid for it, then I just went to the store and picked it up. I wrapped it for my husband to open on Christmas morning. Boy, was he surprised! I did a lot of searching before deciding on this one. I really like the cooking grate feature and the design of the sides allows you to see the fire from that angle also. Excellent value for under $100! I just wish it said on the box or the associates at Home Depot told me I needed some sand to put in the bottom of the fire pit. I had to make another trip to get that. Minor detail. Love it!
