Questions & Answers

Can I use it on a wooden deck

Asked by: Eb
Although you could put this on fire resistive tiles or pavers, I would surely be concerned that sparks, embers, radiant heat of convective heat could, and would start a fire. Too close to a railing or your home... to near a roof eve or awning, or UNDER anything and "POOF" you will be calling 911 and filing an insurance claim. As a firefighter, we respond several times a year to addresses because of these issues. Away from combustible materials...10-12 feet. Always monitor when lit or hot. Check with your local Fire Dept for any restrictions regarding open burning. Some restrict leaves or paper, others restrict burning due to air quality, others require a permit if there is a burn ban enforced or if it it a "red flag warning" day or a windy day. If the least bit in doubt...Don't burn!

Does the sides have wire mesh too: Also, will it allow you to burn papers in it?

Asked by: Sally
Yes it does. It would burn papers just fine.

How much does this weigh?

Asked by: Sharona
40 lbs assembled maybe..?.? I carried the whole box out of the store to my car, and it did fit in my Mazda backseat. It weighs more than the aluminum one in the store. I am able to use the ring and pick up and move around backyard. I enjoy mine!

The product was well-made, easy to assemble, and sturdy, unlike the first fire pit I purchased (and at a much higher price!) The bottom grate (NOT the cooking grate) did rust after being out in the rain, but that's no big deal, it will be cheap to replace or easy to clean and repaint. I would suggest a couple drain holes in the bottom before the final painting/powder coating, which would allow any accumulated water to drain. Also, remember to buy a bag of cheap sand and put a couple inches in the bottom to protect the finish and deter rust. The metal is fairly thick, I plan to clean and repaint as needed for several years to come. I love this fire pit!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great fire pit Came into the store seeking a chimnea, but this little beauty caught my eye. I especially liked the grilling grate function. Solid month in and have zero complaints. Sure, the bottom grate warped a bit, but that's expected with the intense heat of the embers. The mesh lid also has suffered some heat side-effects, but it's just superficial paint flaking due to metal expansion. Again, not an issue in my opinion. Pay more if you want to, but this little fire pit works like a charm for me.

First you can't put the lid on the fire pit when the grill is attached because the pole holding the grill on is too long. Second the poker is very short compared to the one that was shown in the store. I also wasn't able to put the wingnut in to attach the pole down towards the base but it is still functionable. The pros to this is that it was easy to assemble and lightweight and the grill top attachment swings out so if the flames are coming up too high or you want to add more wood you can easily just move it out of the way. I've only had it for a week so we will see how it holds up.

Awesome purchase. I did buy a cover since it sits out in the rain all winter. A couple notes - add the sand like they say in the manual. - a few of the negative reviews show the grate ruined. Pretty sure these people were trying to use it like the bottom charcoal grate in a grill. This is not the intended purpose - it's supposed to sit on a pole over the fire so you can cook food. Works really well for this.

Purchased firepit in 7/17 and returned it after the paint came off after the first fire then it started to rust. I called Hampton Bay to tell them there needs to be a recall and got connected to Home Depot because they handle all problem questions with their product line. They said more peopte need to contact them directly in order for them to notify Hampton bay about the paint defect. The grill rack also shriveled up too. I had the same firepit for 5 or 6 years and loved it. The legs finally gave out and we were hoping to get the same pit. Hampton Bay please respond to all of these issues, so we can have a nice fire in Pittsburgh. Its gonna get cold soon.

It says to use the wood grate in the bottom when burning wood, which I get since there are not any vent holes in the bottom of the basin. I used the provided grate to place/burn the wood on, and after just 1 use, the grate is basically destroyed. The grate essentially warped and became so deformed from the heat, that it is pretty much useless to use any longer in the basin. I purchased this product because the reviews made it seem excellent, but it does not stand up to the reviews on it.

It looks great and the fire was actually really nice, but after one use - a normal-sized fire with nice dry wood - the finish on the outer ring peeled off and the wood grate bent in half. HD/Hampton Bay have been great about replacing the parts under warranty, but I'm skeptical that the same thing won't happen with the new parts.
