Can this fan be installed with a 48" extension pole which is required for our outdoor deck. Where can I purchase a Hampton Bay extension pole at this size?

Comes with 3 inch extensio rod or you can ceiling mount it. If you n Ed a longer rod you'll have to pay.

18.9 inches doesn't seem right for a height at the flush(hugger) installation?
Asked by: TEd
The "close-to-ceiling" installation reduces the distance from the ceiling to the bottom of the fan blades to approximately 9 inches. With light kit and shade will measure approximately 15 inches.

Wall Switch

Can this fan be adapted with a wall switch to control fan and light?? Does Hampton Bay sell the switch?
Asked by: TL
There are a few possibilities/options that you have. First, if you have 12/3 wire (a black/ red/ white wire, not including the ground wire (14/3 permissable if a 15 amp circuit) going from your switch to the mounting box on the ceiling, then you can have a switch with a dedicated Light toggle and Fan toggle, so you can control each separately. They are sold at home depot and are generally in the $25 range.. If you only have a 12/2 wire (14/2 if 15 amp) going to the mounting box, then you can either control the light and fan separately from the pull switch and you would use the light switch as a general power switch to the fan.... or... you can purchase something like a lutron maestro dual control combination switch. that switch includes a module you wire up to the ceiling fan itself (tucked away out of sight) and it works for people that have 12 or 14/2 wire and want separate controls. it actually looks so good and is designed so nicely i will be doing that and i have the required 12/3 wire for dedicated controls regardless. hope this helps

First of all, the fan is hung under a roof over our deck with a 12" down-rod. The fan is substantial, stout and has a heavy feeling. The fan blades are made of plastic but are also fairly heavy. The fan was very easy to put together, until it came to installing the blades. What a night-mare. Evidently there are two product production lines for this fan; one with the fan blade holes properly machined and the other line with "close but not perfect" fan blade holes machined. I got one produced from the "close but not perfect" production line. With all of the 5 star ratings and raves about how easy this fan was to put together I thought it would be a "breeze". I've personally hung over a dozen or so fans in my lifetime, this was by far the worst experience I've had. I followed the instructions on how to assemble and when it came to the fan blades itself I couldn't successfully screw the screws from the blade arms into the fan housing. Sounds super easy... Well it wasn't. I'm not a machinist so I can't say exactly how many micrometers the holes were off, but the holes in the fan housing should have been a little larger and the placement of the holes were not spot on to have a successful assembly. I was only successful until I removed the fan from its hangar and brought it back down to ground level to work on it. Even at that point, the screws would only go in so far and then stop. It made you think that you were cross threading them. After fighting the unit for an hour on the ground, I rehung it and energized the circuit for it. I ran separate switches for the fan and the light. I pulled the chain for the light and it came on. I pulled a second time and the chain broke in my hand. The fan motor chain does not operate smoothly either. If I pull the chain to change speeds of the fan the motor stops. I have to get on a ladder to get close to the fan pull chain assembly and pull from the base of the motor housing. I attached the fan to a metal ceiling box which was attached to a double 2" x 6" brace that was exactly level. I have left the motor speed on medium to reduce the wobble which makes a discerning noise when all is quiet, most noticeably at night. So I am not finished... Next step is to remove the 12" down-rod and replace with an 18" down-rod to bring the fan a little lower, after which I will measure from the floor to the tips of each blade for length consistency. If the wobble persists, I'm out of ideas... Truth be told, I am disappointed in the fan. For all those that had a "breeze" putting it together, God bless you. I'm still fighting it..

My husband and I put them up ourselves. The first one worked fine but the second one would not work. You could hear the fan motor "humming" but no blades were turning. So we had to take it down and return it to the store for an exchange. Of course we had to do a third install, but it is working fine. Both fans have been running day and night for a couple of weeks and we're happy with them. They move a lot of air and look great. I will say that this brand of fan is not the easiest to install. We took the advice of other reviewers and attached the blade arms to the motor before hanging the fan. We just attached the fan blades to the arms after the fan was up. Had both fans worked the first time, I would have given the fifth star!

Assembly of the 7 fans I bought was straightforward and simple; however, attaching the blades was a challenge because the fan motor was already hung and the fan arm screws were difficult to align and easy to cross-thread. I decided to install the fan arms on the motor first before hanging. I then screwed the fan blades to the arms after the motor was hung. The two outer fan blade screws were easily accessible, but the inner screw required a small knobby screwdriver that I had in my toolbox. Not everyone will have this type of screwdriver. Perhaps the manufacturer will provide one to compensate for this design/assembly flaw. DO NOT USE MY EMAIL ADDRESS REQUIRED BELOW TO SEND ME JUNK EMAILS.

Of the last 2, one was missing the downrod assembly. It needs to hang down and can not be mounted flush. This is for a new construction house and the electricians have come and gone. Not only do I have to wait 7-10 days for a replacement (you call an 800 number instead of just taking it back and swapping it out), I now have to install this myself (the electricians aren't going to come back and do it as part of their paid for bid). And - I'm told the inspector won't pass my CO because every room has to have a working light. Major bummer. I can't speak to their function much at this point. They come on, the fan spins. They look decent.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beware It's the downrod... This requires a downrod extension that does not exist on this planet! I was told at the store, when I bought the fan In Person, that the downrod they sold me would work. No it did not. Threaded downrod doesn't work. I then got 3 different 1-800 answers from 3 different Home Depot/Hampton Bay (HD owns HB) employees (who were are courteous and friendly by the way) while striving to install the outdoor fan in the 100 degree San Antonio heat. And Fanimation, etc recommended by them was no help. Long story short, DONT BUY HAMPTON BAY. But if you did, I did a secure longlasting install with a threaded 36" long, 1" diameter downrod just by adding a less-than 1/16" washer at the cotter pin-fan motor attachment, between the inner fan-motor attachment ring, and the 1" threaded downrod. Had to fashion the washer into a curved shape with pliers--not hard. Install is now secure. I just neeed to send my $900 install bill to HD!!! Best wishes to all!

Purchased two of these fans for patio installation. Installing the blades were worse than a nightmare. I have installed many fans and these two were the worst ever. Screws and holes don't match up. What a nightmare. Now we have a terrible wobble, and I know that it is due to the blades not level, but impossible to fix due to the issue noted. If I had saved the boxes I would take both down and return and start all over.

They should have had another step about lining up the light assembly into the wiring receptacle. Be sure to rotate the assembly where the notch is lined up to the light switch in the receptacle, otherwise it won't mate correctly. Fan works great, lights are good, very stable using the "flush" mount method. Used it in the covered patio, so far, so good.

First, let me say that I have installed many ceiling fans and this one took over 1.5 hours. Attaching the fan to the ceiling and making the electrical connections was easy. The worst part was attaching the blades to the fan. Agonizing! Little to no clearance to work and screws that are difficult to align with the holes. Nice fan though, with a very nice finish
