Questions & Answers

The booklet says you need to unplug the unit each and every time you turn it off. Is this really necessary? EACH time?

Can it remain plugged in overnight but turned off?
Asked by: Nancy
I always unplug anything electrical like a toaster, room heater, toaster oven, coffee pot, etc. There is a reason for those instructions and I would follow instructions to prevent a fire. If there happens to be a storm, it can set off the electricity and turn the unit on when you are not home. I speak from experience. During a bad storm once, my electric oven turned on, burning a candle that I had set on the burner. Thankfully I was home and heard the pop of the glass and was able to call the fire department. I will not unplug a stove, but I no longer keep stuff on the burner. So yes, unplug!

can it just plug into a standard outlet?

Asked by: richard
Yes, just keep in mind this draws up to 12.5 amps and outlets in older homes are typically 15 amps. The use of a vacuum or blender, per se, on the same circuit will trip it.

Hampton Bay Legion 1,000 sq. ft. Panoramic Infrared Electric Stove is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 859.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect for our cold Michigan basement media room Last winter our finished/carpeted Michigan basement media room, craft area, office and workshop was so cold. We could hardly take advantage of the 1800 sq feet, due to the weeks of sub-zero wind chills and record breaking temperatures. This unit will be perfect for supplemental heating this winter when we want to be down in the basement for projects and activities. Right out of the box, the unit was easy to start-up. The legs are easily attached. The unit plugs into the wall and has a nice three sided view. There are inside controls that adjust for flame-only or flame with heating. There is a fan control as well. They are hidden from view, but easily accessed. The outside body of the unit does not heat up, so pets are safe as well as small children from burns. The unit produces heat immediately and I am anxious to be using this product during the winter, when we are cold in certain areas of our basement. The unit is easy to move, not too heavy, and attractive enough to use most places in the home.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good little stove It came quickly and packed well. Just needed a philips screwdriver to attach 2 screws per leg. The legs are plastic but seem very sturdy. Cord is about 6 ft and on the right side of the unit in the back. You will need a 3 prong electrical socket. Just plug it in, and inside the doors are the switches and thermostat dial. There is no high/low, just on/off, but you can set the thermostat to regulate the temp. Or leave heat off and just turn on fire effect without heat. The fire logs and flames look pretty realistic. I choose this model because you can view the fire from the sides as well as the front. The heat comes out from the front on the bottom of the unit. Seems to heat up the large front room nicely in Oct here in Oregon.. Don't know yet when it gets really cold. Certainly it will take the chill off and give a fireplace feeling visually. I thought it would stand a little taller and wider, but still i'm really satisfied for the price, and it will be easy to pick up and move to another room. It is fairly quiet as well. I really like it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't usually write reviews, but ... I read all the reviews before purchasing this heater and all the positive remarks influenced my decision. I am so glad I purchased this stove/heater! Once we got it out of the box, my husband had assembled the legs in no time and within minutes we had it on and heating up the room. Of course it's not really cold here yet, but I couldn't believe the heat pouring out of this little heater. I've had heaters and an electric fireplace and this is by far better heat. I'm certain it's going to do the job heating my living room and into my kitchen. And the appearance of it is phenominal. Of course I like the older styles of things and this is so authentic looking. My husband even loved this and he's not always easy to please! He said the embers looked just like the embers in his fire pit. It is very realistic looking. The price is great and I'm going to purchase two more for my son and daughter for their homes. Great, great purchase!!

We purchased one last winter for our living room and got another for the children's bedroom this year. It works well as a cozy piece of decor, a great focal point for grey winter days, and as a heater. We've been able to turn the central thermostat down and just heat the rooms we're using. Our living room is fairly open but it still heats it pretty well, and the kids' room is toasty within a minute or two of switching it on. One of the small details I really like about it is that the switch 'on' is manual rather than electronic, so you can use a remote controlled outlet or a switch-controlled outlet to turn it on. We use a timer-controlled outlet to turn it on five minutes before getting up so the kids wake up to a warm room. Fireplaces with digital, push-button switches can't be controlled in this way, which was part of why I wanted to get this specific model again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cozy for a small room If you are looking for a compact electric fireplace, this is has a very small footprint. It is only 23" high and 11" deep, so it looks best in a small room. It heats very well for its size and the flame effects are very nice and not cheesy or cheap looking. I use the flame feature most of the time as I have other sources of heat in the room. The doors open to reveal separate switches for the heater and the flames as well as a temperature control knob. It is very light and easy to move around. It came packaged very well and only took a few minutes to screw the legs on and it was ready to go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for a small living area. This stove is small so it would look lost in a big living room. We have it in the bedroom and it looks great. The panoramic flame lights up the whole side of the room and creates a focal point . The doors even open just like the old time cast iron stoves. 4,600 BTUs will heat a room up to 1,000 sq. ft. so even though it is small it is mighty when it comes to heat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I still think fake electric fireplaces are hokey. I saw this one on sale. And it was (literally) ... I still think fake electric fireplaces are hokey. I saw this one on sale. And it was (literally) 10 degrees outside. I thought---this is exactly the kind of thing my dad would buy. He'd go: "sure, it's hokey. But it works. And it's fun." So, what the heck. I grabbed a box. I have a house that was built in 1920. Two of the kitchen windows let in freezing air. So I put it in the kitchen. You know, just to take off the chill while I make coffee. Pulled it out of the box and 4 minutes later had the legs screwed on. Flipped the switches and bam! The dog hasn't moved from in front of it. I think she'd be mad if I returned it. The Good: It produces heat right away, according to the dog. I think the finish is good. The plastic is a heavy matte and it mimics cast iron very well. It looks like a tiny Franklin Stove. The flames are very good and you can see them from the sides as well. Nice touch. The doors are solid so it's not going to fall apart after you open it 20 times. The heat starts right away but it takes about 15 minutes to solidly heat up the kitchen. I can live with that. The Bad: the fan noise is obvious. It sounds like you have a portable heater in the corner, blowing air. The heating unit is not enclosed so I suspect the fan is louder than in other electric fireplaces. It's not a deal-killer because the kitchen is a busy place anyway. I would not use it in a living room. The noise would drive me nuts. But for the kitchen or busy area, it's okay. Besides, did I mention the dog loves it?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost had to return it but found a solution Rarely does a purchase make me as giddy as this one did. We love how this stove transformed the vibe of our apartment. It was making an annoying vibration sound the second day, off and on and then non-stop, even when the heater was switched off and we almost returned it until I touched the back plastic panel and the sound stopped. The back plastic panel vibrates so if you brace it with something between it and the wall, the vibration is eliminated. Huzzah!
