I'm not sure what you mean. The "base" screws onto the spike that you drive into the ground. That's how it's meant to installed.

AL is the only one who is right, the light is DC not AC, connect to either one, and it will work.
Not to my knowledge. I purchased a couple of spares. These lights are rated at 50,000 hours. Assuming an average of 12 hours each night (365 x 12 = 4,380 hours) these lamps should last almost 11 1/2 years or so.

It depends on your preference. If you do not mind some dark spots between the lamps (but still able to see steps, for example) or if you have a long distance to cover you can go up to ten or 12 feet apart. The instructions suggest every five to seven feet. These lights are very bright.
