Questions & Answers

I know this fan has a remote control but is it operational from a wall switch too?

Asked by: shopperral
You have the option to use with or without the remote. If you want to use the remote the only thing the wall switch can do is power on or off. If you use or currently have a dimming switch the fan will not work with this either unless you wire without the remote. You would need to change the switch to an on / off only type switch to use with remote. So to answer simply, it is power only from a wall switch with remote or a variable multi operation wall switch without remote.

Does this fan have a switch to change it from summer to winter operation?

Asked by: Mayview
Yes, there is a manual switch on the fan in the top light area to switch the blade direction. The only bummer is that you manually have to switch this on the fan and cannot do it from the remote.

Can you flush mount this or do you have to use a downrod?

Asked by: jewlz
No, this fan cannot be flush mounted as supplied. It should be possible to shorten the downrod by two or three inches with a pipe cutter and by drilling a new hole in the rod for the retaining pin at the fan motor. The fan blades themselves are only ten-inches down from the ceiling with the downrod supplied. And the lowest point of the lower lamp is sixteen-inches down from the ceiling. Anyone who can walk through a standard door will not hit their head on this fan if installed on an eight-foot or higher ceiling. It isn't likely there are any ceiling fans made today that flush mount with "uplights." If shorting the downrod, I recommend installing the wooden fan blades after the fan motor is installed to the ceiling. However be sure to install the metal fan blade brackets to the fan motor first, before mounting the fan to the ceiling as you will be able to angle the fan more without the fan blades hitting the ceiling when hooking things up. This fan most likely does not flush mount due to the uplights that require air circulation to prevent heat buildup on the ceiling.

Bulbs

There are four "Christmas light" size bulbs in the top section and two candelabra base bulbs in the bottom section. What is the maximum wattage of each bulb that can be used? Thank you.
Asked by: oric307
The upper bulbs are 7-watt (plastic bulb sockets) and the lower bulbs are 60-watt (ceramic bulb sockets) incandescent. The wattage should not be exceeded for obvious safety reasons. The remote control receiver is rated to control both resistive and ballast type lamps not to exceed 240 watts. All lamps used must be capable of being dimmed. It may be possible to get more light and stay at or below the wattage specifications by using either dimable LED's or CFL's. While not documented, it appears the fan manufacturer has also included an automatic resetting circuit breaker to protect the lighting circuit. Attempting to exceed the rated lamp wattage may not be possible even though the remote control receiver is rated for a maximum of 240 watts. Replacing the plastic bulb sockets for the uplights with ceramic bulb sockets and bypassing any over current protective devices should allow for higher wattage bulbs to be installed. Modifying the fan assembly will likely void any warranties and electrical safety ratings it carries.

Minorca 52 in. Indoor Brushed Nickel Ceiling Fan is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Dim lighting and relay click Like many others, I really like the look of this fan. They have done a good job at hiding all the screws and ugly parts of the fan assembly. However, there are several things that could be better. 1) The lighting is very dim. The bulbs at the top are a max of 15W and barely cast any light on the ceiling. The bulbs in the bottom are a max 60W, which is fine, but still not very bright for a 20x20' room. Maybe I just like a lot of light, but these seemed really dim. We ended up replacing the 15W bulbs with LEDs that were 40W equivalents. That was MUCH better. 2) The dimmer works well, but I wish the remote had an up/down button. The way it works now is that you push and hold the "light" button on the remote and then hope the light goes the way you wanted it (brighter or dimmer). When you get to the dimmest setting it immediately starts getting brighter again, but when you get to the brightest setting it just sits there. While it works, it could use some improvement. 3) As a couple of others have said, the wiring makes it very difficult to get the receiver into the correct position at the ceiling. There is very little wiggle room for the receiver fitting into its proper location. I suspect this is so that it doesn't rattle when the fan is on, but it makes for a challenging assembly. 4) The receiver clicks whenever you change the fan speed. It's mildly annoying, but was surprising to me the first time I heard it. Other than the lights being dim (which can be replaced with brighter lights) and the dimmer needing a better design, this is a nice fan. It's quiet, it looks nice, and it moves air well. I like having a remote and a dimmer option. We've had no problems with the light or fan speed memory (whatever we set it to when we flipped the wall switch is what it comes back to when we flip the wall switch back on). A few minor changes and this would be a really awesome fan.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice I chose this fan because it's pretty, it doesn't hang too low, and it puts out a fair amount of light. The fan runs quietly with no wobble. The only weakness is the remote control. Sometimes it takes several pushes of the button to turn off the light or to change the speed of the fan.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fan! Bought this fan to replace an outdated and broken one in our master bedroom. The fan is exactly the style we wanted. It does a great job of cooling the room and provides a lot of light. The remote is a great feature, and we discovered we can dim the light as well! Highly recommend this fan, even thinking of getting a 2nd one!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from QUIET / EXACTLY AS PICTURED / SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED / DECENT INSTRUCTIONS My only complaints are the size of the remote (large and old looking), the light dimmer on the remote (works sometimes, finicky, and dims and brightens very slowly), the audible click from the fan when you press a button on the remote, the remote housing barely fits in ceiling area, you have to manually move a switch to reverse blade direction, the blades are fragile and some kind of glued sawdust the finish is cheap and scratches easy (i recommend extreme caution when cleaning these blades). Beyond these, I like the fan, it's nice looking, quiet, and functional.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very attractive useful ceiling fan The fan looks wonderfull provides good light and air movement with a quiet motor. Couldn't ask for much more. Install was a little difficult as we had to trim some wires to make room for the remote reciever to fit. Bottom light cover was broken in the box. Took a week for replacement cover to arrive after emailing company.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Uplight and Downlight are Great I have only had this fan installed for a week, but it gives off a beautiful light in my second bedroom. Using the remote control is easy and nice to have close at hand. So far everything is working great!
