Can you leave the lights out during the Wisconsin winters?

Answer

Thank you for your question. For extreme temperature lows (below 0 degrees F) we would suggest bringing the lights inside.

Is this one light only?

Yes, its one light per box. I bought 3 four my deck, they offer great light.

How long does the light burn after dark

I bought 3, and they are still on at dusk, they dim as the sun rises.

Can this item be installed in a PVC 5 x 5 post?

Yes just make sure did you have some kind of a cap that covers the PVC so you can screw this product down onto it.

Is there an on/off switch?

Asked by Patti June 2, 2020

Answers

There is no switch on these. Out of the box there is a pull-tab to activate them, and from there they are always on. By day they charge (light off) and at dusk it turns on automatically.

Is there an on/off swirch if you want to turn them off?

No, there isn’t an on-off switch

I have posts that are 3.25 x 3.25 (sold as 4x4 posts). Will these lights fit okay on these posts?...

Yes I bought 40 last week. So simple to install. They make my new fence glow. I get so many compliments. The lamps look stunning on my fence . Gorgeous

Can you use these on 4x4 round fence post if not were can I find some

Asked by Joe March 1, 2020

Answers

Joe, what I would do is cut yourself a piece of wood to a 4 x 4 or 6 x 6 and nail it to the top of the round post. Then your light will fit over that…. Hope this helps.

do the post lights have to be mounted on wood posts? Can they be put on Composite Post Sleeves?

Asked by dt February 20, 2020

Answers

They have 2 base attachments. One for posts, the other for a flat surface. I mounted mine onto the corners of the flat handrails rather than posts.

Can these fit a 5.5”x5.5” post?

Good looking and nicely made for the price.
I purchased 7 of these lamps for my deck restoration project. Installation was very, very easy. It takes longer to unpack the box than to install one of these. Both a 4x4 and 6x6 post adapter base are included in the kit. The main photo here on HomeDepot.com shows the 4x4 base attached, which is what I used. My deck was originally constructed with flat-topped rails without post-tops. To make mounting points for my lights I bought a single post over in the decking materials section, and cut off 4-inch risers that I screwed onto my deck's rails, aligned with the actual posts below. The base screws from the top to your post with 2 screws provided in the kit. The lamp then just sits into the base. I like that the mounting screws are hidden once the lamp is installed. It gives it a nice, finished look. I expect the screws will last longer since they are not directly exposed to the weather too. The glass lens is very, very heavy. It reminds me of a 1970's glass ashtray. Be careful when you first remove the top to pull the activation tab. The glass does slide out pretty easily. All of the "bronze" parts are actually painted plastic. Hopefully they will hold up over time. For the price though, its to be expected. The lamps fit snugly into their base, however, I think this could be a bit more secure. If someone leans against one, or if a small child grabs one, it will definitely pop out. I may look at using a dab of hot glue, or some other adhesive to glue them together a bit more securely. Something to prevent accidental disconnects/drops, but not so secure that I can't pop them off down the road for painting. Of the 7 lamps I purchased, one was a dud and I'll be exchanging it. It lit up as expected, but, it does not shut off. This means either its solar panel is bad, or its internal charging circuit is shot because its not sensing that its day time. I have lots of solar lights in my yard, and this is unfortunately a common occurrence. Fortunately, exchanging it at HD is easy. For what its worth, I purchased these Hampton Bay lights because the 7 post-lamps I was replacing were also from Hampton Bay, and they were all at least 12 years old. All 7 of them actually still work to one extent or another (they got new batteries every other year) but 12-years of New England weather have beat them up cosmetically. If these ones last even half as long, I'll be incredibly satisfied.

Although I love the shape and diffused light output of the post lights, The 4” base wasn’t quite large enough for all of the posts, so it doesn’t sit straight on some. Also, the lamp itself doesn’t secure snuggly into the base, so if someone bumps it, it falls right off.

I especially like these lanterns because they shine nicely on the ground, deck, and stairs better than many other shorter LEDs.

This product really adds an ambiance to any deck. Construction is strong and the design is second to none with the magnifying lens. It's not very bright, so if you have posts at the top and bottom of longer stairs, consider getting 4; especially if the lights get limited sun. The solar panel/collector does a very nice job keeping the light as bright as can be. If you have a top rail that can accept the cap, that's another way to make your deck "pop". (See photos) I have one in the corner of my deck that gets 50% of sun as opposed to the other 2, so to keep it as bright with the others; Once a month before dusk, I'll put my led flashlight on the panel for about 2 hours and I'm good to go. So try to keep in sun as much as possible avoiding trees as I should have done when I built the deck. I would use a little longer screw as the ones supplied should be at least 1/4 inch longer. If you want a little extra help to keep the thing attached, consider adding just a touch (about a dime size dab) of liquid nails to the inside of the corners of the pole cap. Remember, just a tiny bit to ensure you can remove for use on another post. Be sure to lightly sand the corners with 100-200 grit sandpaper for the best adhesion. The photos were taken at 5 a.m. after a cloudy day. Thanks Hampton Bay. Nicely done!
