Not at all. It tears very easily, especially the corners.

Can I use this on a composite deck

Asked by: Curious
I would not suggest you use this on any kind of deck. In my opinion, these are made to use on gravel or dirt ground. There is a blazing hot fire within inches of whatever is under it. Even using it on grass would be dangerous. You certainly can use it on grass, but I would have a water hose close by in case of emergency.

Tipton 34 in. Steel Deep Bowl Fire Pit in Oil Rubbed Bronze with Cover is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 221.

I wanted something more sturdy and bigger (big fires Yeah!). This fire pit is very good. Assembly was easy and the Tipton fire pit is sturdy and appears well constructed. This pit can handle a good sized fire, which produces great heat and is fun to work. The screen top fits well and provides good spark protection. Only issue I have is with the included cover, which rips easily, as the corners of this pit are pointed.

Okay so there are a lot of reviews here complaining about the unit being flimsy and rusting easily. Once the top portion of the fire pit is screwed into the base it is sturdy and heavy so I'm happy in that category. In regards to the rusting aspect, I went ahead and bullet proofed this fire pit so that I would not have any problems. Prior to assembling the unit I purchased 1 can of Rust-Oleum Specialty 12 oz. Black High Heat Ultra Spray Paint and sprayed the inside of the unit with two coats and then sprayed the cover with two coats as well. After that I sprayed two coats of Rust-Oleum Stops Rust 12 oz. Crystal Clear Gloss Spray Paint to prevent any type of rusting on the entire fire pit. So for an additional $12 and change this unit will last me years vs months like some post are suggesting. Word to the wise use the cover that is included as well and you should enjoy this unit for quite some time.

The online purchase process and shipping was fine. Delivery and setup was easy. We used the product the night we got it and enjoyed it. After the fire was out and the fire pit cooled, I covered it for the night. I noticed the cover seemed a little flimsy but worked. But after two weeks, it already has two small holes in it. As far as the fire pit, we have used it twice and it already has minor surface rust in all the creases and weld lines on the bottom, and even some rust on the cage cover and top. I am going to clean it out and try to spry it with Hi Temp paint to see if that helps.. If not, I plan on returning it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Way to go Home Depot... got robbed. The pit is good enough. Not as sturdy as it looks. Seems like it will rust very easily. The covee included is cheap. I bought this as a house warming gift for a friend. Purchased near my home (Hillsdale store) and drove it to Placerville. We opened package to set up pit and it was obviously used. First the wrench included was not and there were two screws missing. The bottom was dirty with soot and the top had rust on it. The frame is bent as well with a few scratches. Returns should be opened and examined for parts and damage before put back on shelf. You have lost my trust Home Depot. Beware!! This company passes its losses onto the consumer.

The cover is totally useless. it is so thin that it ripped the first time I covered the pit and I was careful with it because the material is so thin. The cover has been on the pit now for a week and we had some moderate winds and the cover blew off. When I picked up the cover one spot had several pin holes in it and also was starting to split at the seams. I would have been willing to pay a little more for the pit if it had a decent cover. I don't think the cover is worth more than $2. I have had the pit for a week now and have not had a fire in it yet so I cant comment on how it works.

It's the largest size I could find between Lowes, Homedepot, and Ace instore stock. Good quality for the most part. There is an element of cheapness to it as well though, mainly the lid. So be carefull with this item , I'd call it a mix between decorative and durable, but for what it is I'm pleased enough to keep and not return. This fire pit certainly allows a proper sized fire to be lit versus other models I looked at, and it matches my bronze accents around the house exterior.

Love it, it’s a very nice size for a group of up to maybe 15 people, 12 or less may be more ideal. Only reason I gave one less star is the pole to lift the cover is a bit short and hard to work with, especially when you are reaching over flames. We’ve just been leaving the cover off, my wood is seasoned, so I’ve not had issues with flying sparks other than when my son dumped in some leaves and paper. I took 2 sheets of Hardee Board and then covered those with 30 12x 12 ceramic tiles. (5’ x 6’ platform) That added $48 of expense for our “platform”. That is directly on my grass. Gives a nice, level spark-proof area that we can set plates, marshmallow sticks, drinks etc. When season is up, I can just pick it all off the lawn, as I didn’t attach the tile, it’s temporary. Everyone thinks I spent way more than I did. We are able to get a decent size fire in this. The ceramic underneath hasn’t gotten hot so far, but I’m still glad to have extra protection, plus it looks nicer and comes in handy.

No damage visually to box, but when assembling the unit found that two of the four mounting tabs for the heat shield were broken off (cheap spot welds). Called customer service and opened up a claim. They were going to check and see if they had a heat shield they could send me. Got a call back in a day or so, no heat shield replacement parts available. I would have to repackage the unit and take it back to a Home Depot store for return. So, what was the sense in ordering it on-line and having it delivered? Took it back, got a refund, and left the store.
