I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to install this fan. It look me about 60 minutes total. I was also surprised at how quiet the operation was. I have had other Hampton Bay fans that I've had to remove because of the noisy motor... this one is very quiet.
The fan is definitely made to go outside. It has plastic fan blades that will not be affected by moisture and is has rubber gaskets at all the critical parts to prevent rust and moisture issues. You can mount it inside, but in a large room with a high ceiling as it has a large design that just doesn't look right in a small room.
Also, there is no pull chain to adjust the speed of the fan, so you must either use the supplied wall control or another fan control/remote. I did see some complaints about the supplied controller, so please keep in mind that you aren't limited to that specific controller and that you can purchase another brand if desired.
Also, at a time when everything else has gone LED, this comes with three 40 watt (120 watts total) incandescent light bulbs. Plan on switching those out right away.

Installing it is not as easy as a regular fixture, or fan, where you basically hook black to black wire etc. your done. The one thing I noticed by reading questions and reviews, which I do before I write mine; is the the wall switch often works once or not at all. In the directions you will notice one wire is for the hot (where the electricity originates from), and the other is for the fan. I had to figure out how to determine which wire was going to the fan, (there is more than one black wire to select from).
The power is off at the main breaker and verified with a circuit tester before any of this happens.
How I accomplished this was I used the continuity tester of my multi meter. I got out what was left of a roll of 16 gage wire, left over from my last project converting a florescent kitchen fixture to an LED one. I hooked one side of my multi meter to the black wire in the wall, the other to the roll of wire now stretched out to reach the fan fixture. I then touched the black wire at the fixture with the bare end of the roll wire, no tone, so I hooked the multi meter to the other black wire at the switch side, touched the black wire at the fan fixture, Beeeeeeeep so that is the wire going to the fan. I do believe that since it is not easy tell by looking, I am guessing, folks are hooking to the wrong one, and in a lot of circumstance it will work but not for long. The electronic components in this switch have low tolerances so picking the wrong wire will cause it to malfunction or not work at all. Once I determined which wire was coming from the fan, is was a simple black wire to black, white to white etc.
With all the wiring done it works great, it is weather resistant so the dripping humidity and semi open environment should not take a toll on the fan, but I just installed it, we will have to see on how long it last.
Oh, another quick note, I did not use the bulbs that came with, I am using 3 similar size 12 watt 5000k LEDs lower watts, lower heat, and MUCH brighter. They will also withstand the vibration, and last longer. (I need a new step ladder with WIDE rungs that do not hurt my feet). Honestly the step ladder is the hardest part, if you install as the directions show the fan holds itself in place while you install it. Second hardest was determining the correct fan wire. Everything else "easy peasy"
I got this for a shop I own, it is 1200 square feet, has two 10'x12' roll type doors and ceiling is 14'. high. It is in South Texas along the Coastal Bend where we have humidity that exceeds 100% often; it is called super saturation. One corner has a kitchen(ish) break area, this is where the fan went.
Electrician installed the fans, they work fine, but they’re not as quiet as i would have liked

The way the light fixture screws on to the bottom of the fan, there’s almost no way to prevent a scraping noise from where the fan blades screw in and the top of the light fixture cover.
